India's Olympic Achievement: Indifference

So in short you want to say want to say that we will perform like this always because its genetic

Indians are excellent in mountaineering, see those people running up and down the mountains in their flip flops carrying twice their body weight in load. There are numerous such examples where the agility, flexibility, stamina, and endurance of common Indians is beyond people of other nationalities.

.
It is not trivializing the "problem." How is not being able to become the fastest runner in the world a problem? This article places things in proper perspective.

I can't believe this. Just incredible.

Unless we perfom well in olympics these things will be considered as excuses. :coffee:

Like i said both physically and mentally.. Indians do not seem to excel in competitive sports, Especially body contact, Thats why they have displayed certain success in Chess, Shooting, Snooker or Archery.. But that too at mediocre level given world standards

Prime example is field Hockey.. Use to dominate when it was much slower and less nations played now India is struggling to compete the physicality bought in by the introduction of Astro turf

You are so full of shit.

Until very recently Vishy Anand was the world champ at Chess. We need to see how many chess players there are in India before comparing us to countries like Russia. That being said India is a giant in Chess.

The same thing applies with the rest of sports you mentioned.

If any genetic generalisations apply to India, it also applies to Sri Lanka.

What is so incredible about following the herd. You know Indian society. When was the last time an Indian parent started training his/her kid for competitive sport since the age of 2. I have know Italians who are disgusted about what has happened to their countrymen, how being an Italian is now all about football and hooliganism.

Our English speaking crowd cries about lack of govt support and lack of infrastructure. What govt support and infrastructure the African countries have? Yet they make a mark beyond what India has managed.

It is time to realize India does not behave the way the rest of the world does. India and Indian's priorities are different.

You're right, Indian priorities are different. Very few if any Indian parents will allow their child to pursue a career in sport. That doesn't mean it's a good thing. Indian parents should encourage their children to succeed, in whichever field their children want to pursue, be it academic, athletic or otherwise.

First of all Indians do not have the luxury of a welfare state which is a good thing (I am not partial to a socialist society). Entire family's financial future depends on the kids in future being able to earn a steady income. That being said, there are enough rich Indians who could and do encourage their kids in whatever field they want to be in. Just that Indian kids (even the rich ones) do not seem to be interested in sports more than as a fitness regimen. They are drawn towards drama, story telling, movies, music, science, technology, etc., etc. Stuff which have made Indian culture popular throughout the world without India or Indians even realizing it.

So what have you proven other wise by your rant?? That even in Chess Countries like Russia out play India?? No arguments there.. Infact that disproves the notion that Indians excels in non physical competitions as well.. Your argument not mine

We're talking about India not SL here are we.. Anyway since you mention it.. When it comes to physical sport and sporting achievements..SL with a population less than Bombay has punched above it's weight .. The Island is ranked 3rd in Asia in Rugby union (One of the most roughest sports played by over 100 nations), Produced Olympic medal winning sprinters (Only Asian nation to do so..(Google it) And even in a global minority sport like Cricket won a WC, and a top ranked team in all formats

talking about genes.. Lankans are less homogeneous than Indians in general.. Given the smaller population and more inter ethnic admixture.. so yeah maybe there is a case for it

Seriously there is no way you can spin India's lack of achievement in sports as a good thing, just stop.

India needs to excel in every field. Every single one.

This sounds like the time a few years ago when Indians were saying, "Oh we don't need manufacturing, we'll just go straight to a service economy" as a way of excusing incompetence.

Sigh.

Vishy Anand was the world champion of chess for 6 years. The current world number 3 in female chess is Indian. Seriously just stfu.

Let's compare Sri Lanka to Australia (similar populations) in terms of sporting achievement or would you rather not get embarrassed?

.
It's general knowledge .. Look at your sporting record and history.. Second largest talent pool in the world (If you can call it that) but next to nothing to show in achievement in sport, Forget Olympics.. It's a one sport nation (Cricket) even that without domination

And i reiterate what ever excuses about colonialism, priorities for education,Poverty etc are mere petty excuses

This is not a troll effort.. The OP yet again posted a humorous article just like the Mexican one.. So its inevitable somebody needs tom keep things in perspective

Neither the Indian government nor many educational institutions put enough support to athletics which are necessary to be competitive in modern sports. Improving performance on such levels has become a science on its own and requires enormous support.

Nothing to be embarrassed about.. Australia is a sporting powerhouse, a first world nation that prioritize it's porting achievements.. Again this is not about SL is it?? Why is this fixation with some of you Indian posters every time to change tracks to other countries whenever you cant counter argument.. Like i said given the circumstances economic and social(civil war etc).. The island have punched above it's weight with it's south Asian neighbors with much larger resources and population.. Infact Lankans should be proud

India cannot and should not try to achieve excellence in "every field." What does "every field" mean. They are countries producing incredible amount of ****, should we out-achieve them? While not comparing sports to **** actually, I really do not see any value in athletics or other competitive sport. It is a vainglorious dick measuring exercise and nothing else.

It has an entertainment value to it, which role Cricket plays in India. Then we can always watch other nationalities beat the $hit out of each other in contact sports. There is sense in being a spectator there and not a participant.

What India needs instead is a culture where working with one's hand is encouraged. Not schools which produce citizens who fumble even fixing a light bulb. Not schools which are clerk producing factories.

Of course we need manufacturing, but not the way it was done in the West.

I am sick and tired of Westerners who ask how do we preserve our meat or remark that Indians add spice to food to mask the fact that it is rotten meat. That India is tropical and can well afford to keep its animals alive until it wants to eat them, is something which they cannot figure out. Likewise I see enormous amount of Indians clamouring for cold storage units to preserve our produce from going bad. A whole lot of agro-based industries could be set up right at the district levels where the produce comes from.

What I mean to say that India needs solutions made in India.

A case can be made how it spins off Sports Medicine research and its utility in Military training and treating injuries, beyond that nothing really.

Yeah and India has nothing to be embarrassed about regarding its sporting achievements either, not vis a vis Sri Lanka anyway. If you can't see why I brought up Sri Lanka in this thread you are sillier than you sound,

Why is it because im of Lankan origin?? ..Well thats beyond silly, That clearly shows your insecurity..India consists of of vastly different ethnic groups.. So it's not just the genetic make up that make them non Athletic but the mentality too.. Further more it's you who bought up the gene argument here not me.. So instead of countering the argument with facts you throw a hissy fit dragging SL in to it.. I'd say mighty impressive.. NOT

Lol.. It's not me that compared a country of 1.2 billion people and it's sporting achievements with a coutry that has a population less than Bombay.. I think you just did embarrass the whole of India

Wow.. similar arguments were back then regarding manufacturing, 'oh land acquisition is difficult, can't make factories','we need Indian solutions' etc etc. It's like the 'Indian solution' where IIT-M came up with a low voltage supply to power essentials in houses, instead of pushing through power reforms and building more power stations.

Oh we are bad at sports, so we'll pretend like it's not important in order to make ourselves feel better. Sounds a lot like 'sour grapes' and excuses for failure and incompetence.

This is going to be my last post on this thread, idiocy like that which has been displayed here requires more patience than I have to deal with.
