India's missile defence system to affect balance of power in region: Aisha Farooqui

Why should a defensive missile system impact the “balance of power’ ?

A weapon is a weapon. It is a tool which can be used for defence and as well as for offence.

A new arms race in the region can only result in further regressive attitude towards human development.

Only if it is working inside India to its maximum range. Defensive come Offensive is the word when deployed near border covering air space of neighboring country. Name is the Fair Game. When A country is deploying such defensive weapon to affect the air space of other country; it is called affecting balance of power so also an offensive weapon which will lead to an arm race because the B country will definitely try to not to be boxed in corner because of such weapon. Why India has been crying for every weapon that Pakistan ever bought from US or any other nation? even though not all of them are offensive.

A air defence weapon has a few essential components - Deterrence being one of them. Its not like this is the first weapon system India, China or Pak has that cannot reach into each others air space.

All nations obtain weapon systems based on their threat perception and / or doctrine . As regards ' working inside India" , such weapons are employed only when the balloon goes up or an incursion takes place . In both cases air space violation does not matter.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan spoke out against India's S-400 ballistic missile defence system on Thursday, saying that it will affect "balance of power" in the region.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said during her weekly press briefing that Islamabad had always expressed concern over the induction of the S-400 Air Defense system.

Answering a question about India's missile defence system, she said it will harm stability in the region as it will lead to an unnecessary arms race in the region.

She said Pakistan has proposed a discussion on a strategic restraint regime for South Asia which includes the proposal to avoid the induction of weapons that will contribute towards destabilisation in the region.

Renewed arms race
Last year, Pakistan had shared concerns that the S-400 missile defence system would lead to an arms race in the region.

"The Indian purchase of S-400 missile system is a part of their efforts to acquire a Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System through multiple sources," the Foreign Office of Pakistan said in a statement.

"This will further destabilize strategic stability in South Asia, besides leading to a renewed arms race."

Following the May 1998 nuclear tests by both sides, the Foreign Office noted, Pakistan had proposed a strategic restraint regime in the region, advocating against the acquisition of BMD systems due to their destabilising effect.

Last time following affected the 'Ballance of Power' in region:

Tejas
Phalcon
SU30-MKI
Brahmos
Rafael
:blah::blah::blah:

Now S400 did it again. Keep on doing it again and again. We don't bother, we match all your capabilities.

There is only one incident of F-16 fratricide. Any one with half a knowledge of defence matters knows which one especially when you are on a Pakistani Defense forum.

Seems like you can't post a single opinion without throwing tantrums or taunts. Eventually, this place will not be of your interest nor the same will allow you to continue in such tone despite being reminded twice.

India should raise its defense and offence weapon systems and threaten Pakistan from time to time. Pakistan shouldn't cry over this and try to match India weapon to weapon. Show them what is Pakistan capable of.

Why should a defensive missile system impact the “balance of power’ ?
Every defensive product / weapon can be used in aggressive move / adventure witch lead to full scale war...Ex if India dare to air raid or missile strikes on specific locations and denied same thing to Pakistan because of S-400 so we have no option left but to escalate the situation.

Why should a defensive missile system impact the “balance of power’ ?

Two or three batteries of S-400 cannot possibly change the balance of power. They can always be over whelmed with brute force and effective intelligence operation.

This statement from Pakistan is little more than diplomatic maneuvering. I hope and believe that the Indian military planners will not be complacent about air defense even when all S-400 batteries become fully operational.

S-400 regiments will not be deployed near border nor Indian AAD/PAD BMD...
Both systems are purely for defensive purpose...
Only S-400 Air Force regiment 1 will be deployed in and around Srinagar Air Base
Where its for only anti aircraft or cruise missile defense...

Indian BMD radars are deployed in Rajasthan/Himachal far from Pakistani border and the AAD/PAD batteries are still to be deployed which will
Mostly cover the metro cities only in next decade...
India has no offensive weapon which actually threatens Pakistan... India has purely defensive mentality ...
Although Modi Govt. Is trying to change it to Offensive Defense posture but until now don’t see any acquisition progress of semi-stealth UCAVs from USA which is only weapon that can actually implement the strategy keeping aside actual usage of fighter aircraft which will definitely will create tense situations

Don't worry. China has already shared all the S-400 weaknesses and secrets with Pakistan.

Its cheaper to develop BMD countermeasures then a BMD.

That is why China and Russia are primarily working on that, and also Pakistan is taking same route.

Hi uncle trump,

If you or your men are reading, Kindly highlight the word “Disturbance of Balance of Power” and give us F-16 72s and V.

Its as diplomatic as India did on every military purchase of Pakistan.

S-400 can not even track our BMs in depressed trajectory they fly faster then radar detection speed of S-400.

Every time India acquires a major weapons system, Pakistan starts complaining about how the "balance of power" will be impacted. They have complained to the US, Russia, almost anybody who is selling weapons to India. Pakistan calls it an arms race.

Nevermind that India's military is decrepit and needs to be replaced. Its air force is understrength. Its army is understrength with a huge need for officers and soldiers. With India's economy doing better, funds are finally available to fill these gaps.

It's odd that Pakistan, a nuclear state, would complain about India's modernization. It, too, has invested in its military and missile program. Yet even with nuclear missiles, Pakistan insists on conventional parity with India. Of course, this suits India as Pakistan will waste resources on its military rather than fixing its economy.

India is getting excited when New toys are coming.

Pakistanis are not? You haven't been on PDF long. Many fanboys here who get excited at even the remote possibility of getting a weapon system, like the Su-35.

JFT & eastern equipment was tested against S-400 in China and F-16s along with western tech of PAF will be tested in Turkey against S-400 so no issue.
