Steel Cut On India's First Warship Design House


Indian Defence Minister AK Antony will formally put down the foundation stone to NIRDESH

India's first warship research and design institute about a half-hour from now in Kerala. According to an MoD press release a couple of days ago, the new design house will "concentrate on enhancing self reliance in production capabilities relating to all kinds of warships, submarines and other related platforms required by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard to safeguard our long coast line and protect maritime interests of India". This is of course a long delayed proposition -- India already has a robust indigenous warship building capability between naval designers, shipbuilders and DRDO. This will simply consolidate that.

Why are you taking all the projects to your home-land (God Own Land) for building killing machine.

Why can't we have shipbuilding in Orrisa and Bengal they have large infrastructure and labour lying idle... The if we go to Kerala half of the population is in Middle-east and a guy to passed out of his school, his target easy jobs is middle-east , then how can you people to cut steel in dockyard with fire in hot summer.

This design-house could have come up in Bihar-Jharkand-Chhattisgarh, we have lots of Engg here too .

It has more to do with the distance of the Southern States (security perspective) from the China-Pak border than to do with political considerations.

That is why most of the premier institutes like ISRO,HAL,ADA,ASL etc are in South. And considering the current Maoist menace in the states quoted (Bihar,Jharkhand,Chattisgarh) the institute is better down South considering the relative peace and access to sea.

This is was said once in the Parliament by a minister when the exact same question was asked. Wll try to find the link.

i disagree with ur post, defence related infrastructure has greatest threat in case,there is any war.
