India's DMRC to Export Metro Coaches to Australia for Queensland & Sydney Metros

Bombardier's new trains for Australia's Queensland to be made in India

With the Modi government opening up Indian railway infrastructure projects to foreign investments as part of its larger Make in India push, Canada's transportation giant Bombardier is betting big on the country.

Some months back, Bombardier won an order to supply rail coaches to Australia. These coaches will be manufactured in India. Here's what the coaches will look like:

$4.1 billion order
Bombardier won a $4.1 billion order from the Queensland authorities to deliver 75 new six-car trains that will be manufactured in Gujarat.

About the project
While Bombardier's share of that order is $2.7 billion as the project lead, its India unit will be executing orders worth $1.5 billion for exports to Australia till 2019.
Design
The vehicle design is based on the Adelaide EMU train. According to Bombardier, the new commuter trains will provide improved capacity, security and passenger flow.
75 EMUs
Bombardier's scope for this project includes the supply of the 75 Electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) and maintenance for 30 years.
Make in India
Since 2012, Bombardier has been exporting components, rakes, bogie frames, and metro cars for various projects in Australia, Saudi Arabia and even Brazil from the Savli unit.
