India was purchasing oil when there were UN sanctions on Iran and she will continue to do so while US wont restrict India from investing in Chahbahar. For what if Pakistan denies ground logistics support to NATO mission in Afghanistan, US can ask India to ship her logistics through Iran.

Inaddition, China has become a bigger US threat in recent times, so, to counter Chinese venture in Gawadar, US needs India in Iran. Thus, the pressure Trump wants to exert on Iran wont exceed a limit.

India only cooperated with Iran over Chabahar once the nuke deal went official but now since US has scrapped it completely, and imposing heavy sanctions on Iran, India will be forced to withdraw from other projects with Iran as well and yes it includes chahabhar too. Just like Pakistan avoided IP gas pipeline, India did the same. Now don't say that India only opted out from IPI because of Pal. If that been the case, than why India quietly is persisting with TAPI ?

Having said all this, Chahabhar is and was never a competition to Gwader Port. In real, highly over rated but given extra projection by Indians or sometimes by Pakistanis here on PDF just to troll Indians. India is not getting anything from it. Iran has other options on their shore as well so its one way traffic for Afghanistan only. Even they will save more money if they do their business via Karachi port than Chabahar but their stupidity has no bounds when it comes to hate Pakistan.

Our target market is not just Afghanistan, but Central Asia via Iranian rail infra.

India only needs three countries for the extended Chahbahar project to succeed: India, China and Iran.
Indian and Chinese investment will continue in Iranian Railways.

These sanctions are profitable to India in the longer term as the oil price comes down to "friendship" prices, maybe in INR like before.
Iran is already buying rail infrastructure from India. Sanctions will only raise their dependency.

If you are talking about the Int. North South corridor its already in trouble as certain road links are still incomplete. Astara road infrastructure still needs to be built. Central Asia are closed economies so kinda stupid to think that they are viable commercially. There has been too much delay due to Armenia and Azerbaijan relations on this front. Plus it has nothing to do with Chabahar. Its linked with Bandar Abbas, as India already uses that port for trade and connect to Russia from there, given the infrastructure is built. Chabahar was never a commercial port is too far and needs funding in infrastructure, it was sold to Indians as a strategic port to keep an eye on China as local media has been doing nonsense propaganda it would be a military port not a commercial one. Iran being edgy on indian military presence on Chabahar prompted India to lease Omani port. India can't compete with China either on investment or intent, so its unlikely China or Pakistan will allow any military angle there. India has built 2 berths there they can trade apples and bananas with Afghans, the question is will it be feasible to maintain the port long-term.

Regarding oil prices still to wait and see what kind of sanctions Trump has placed in, to expect policies of pre-2015 era is living in fools paradise.
