India's Ballistic Missile Defense Options

The NFU purpoted by India ,IMHO, is just pure hogwash and acts like a smokescreen.

Do any one honestly believe, that in the unlikely scenario of loosing huge territory to China (loosing to Pakistan is impossible) India will be sitting back saving the precious nukes ??

I dont think so. The NFU is purely for international consumption trying to create the image of a responsible nuke power an going by the looks of it seems to be working quite well. :azn:

I think so. If you still believe that our leaders will do that?? Then you are in illusions my friend and be ready for a big shock. Today's leaders looks up to USA for dictation they don't have a vision or strength of character of a true leader.

:undecided:

How can a non-nuclear state use nuclear bomb ???

Indian National Security Advisor Shri Shiv Shankar Menon signaled a significant shift from "no first use" to "no first use against non-nuclear weapon states" in a speech on the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Defence College in New Delhi on October 21, 2010, a doctrine Menon said reflected India's "strategic culture, with its emphasis on minimal deterrence."

This means if India is attacked by a country which has no Nuclear weapon then Indian will always fight that with conventional war....If country's like Pakistan , China attack India then in retaliation it can use nuclear weapons before it is attacked by a Nuclear bomb...hope u understood,....

This is not just about being responsible nuke power but also allows us to develop missile defence system.

:hitwall:  Yes, the GoI honestly believe and they have set up NFU policy according to the capability. This is not any banana republic that anyone took over power and change it. But why do you think that India will loose huge territory to China? Is this 1962? Do we live in Gandhi-Nehru era? Why do we have such huge armaments? Why 1.2 million strong army? Why large number of SU-30MKI? MRCA? FGFA? Why so many aircraft carrier and advanced submarines? Why we buy the bests of Russia, Europe and America?

Come out of vintage era mindset.

I heard before the Indian army had requested a presentation on PAC-3 from the US but I feel we should go for the Arrow 3 once Israel has completed the project

dude when we have already demonstrated PAD than why we need Arrow-3? PDV is ready for test. AD-1 and AD-2 under development. All these are the best suited for us and developed according to our requirements. India wanted Arrow-2 in 2001/02 but that is history now.

I agree we should develop our domestic capabilities but Im just thinking how capable will Arrow 3 be in the future will it not suit our needs to go for such a system as we already have the Green Pine radar for it.

“The design of Arrow 3 promises to be an extremely capable system, more advanced than what we have ever attempted in the U.S. with our programs” Gen. O’Reilly told the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services subcommittee for strategic forces. “This has to do with the seekers that have greater flexibility and other aspects, such as propulsion systems- it will be an extremely capable system”.

I agree that Arrow-3 is an advanced system but our PDV got all capabilities of Arrow-3 like high altitude kill, IIR seeker, diverted thruster etc. Also Arrow-3 is lot more costlier and will not be available for export!
