Well done to these guys. India has made leaps and bounds on putting themselves on the world stage in wrestling.

It's sad to think what Pakistan could have done had their been the interest and investment.

Waz sb,

You are right- all of Indian boxers and wrestlers come from Punjab and Haryana- essentially the same cultural space as Pak Punjab. These sports are endemic to the region- all of us know about Gama Pehelwan and their likes. With the same amount of funding and support, there is no reason why Pak cant achieve the same.

Regards

far from potential.there is still so much to do when compared with china. just a silver and bronze here and there, we have failed to convert those into golds and half chances into medal. a lot need to be done.

.
Pakistanis seriously need to get a "chullu bhar pani"

A nation of 220 million people and still waiting to get its first Olympic medal in 29 years and all because of incompetency, apathy and corruption

Have some shame Pakistani nation. This is not the way to live in this world

Thank you for your post my friend and you are correct. The regions have always been associated with the "strongman sports".
All the best to the Indian wrestlers.
Sadly funding is not even thought of and Pakistan's obsession with cricket where attention and money goes is also hurting it.

The thing is money and resources. China has a multi billion dollar programme where they invest in their potential athletes from the ages of 3 years and up. It's impossible to match, unless India diverts massive amount of capital from much needed areas.
Certain sports you guys have done well e.g. wrestling. Keep specialising and ploughing money into it.
At least you guys have got over the silly obsession with cricket.

223 million bro and its utter besti.
Our poor guys without shoes, without places to train, make-shift weights (yes you heard that right), no one paying for their travel etc.
Why the hell don't we have a national centre for wrestling, a league? Train grassroots talent? Boxing and weightlifting are areas where there has been historic olympic success. No one is asking for Pakistani sailors, skateboarders, swimmers etc, but at least do something in sports we had been good at.

Just a joke, but forget let's all spend millions on cricket which has brought squat in the decade.

India has bigger final worries to address than committing resources for Olympic glory. Kudos to the athletes to have faired well; to expect more funding from the Indian state is unfair.

Plenty of boxers from Northeast as well. Why would you restrict talent to just one particular region?
At least you guys have got over the silly obsession with cricket.
Cricket ain't a silly obsession but yes, focusing on cricket at the cost of other sports is silly.

We wouldn't have got a silver if not for a brilliant comeback from Ravi Dahiya.

Cricket is a dry well. I’ve never enjoyed the sport and looks pretty useless to me. MMA, Wrestling and Boxing these type of fast action sports should be a priority to grow talent not a stick and ball.

It’s been two decades since I last watched a single cricket match.

Cost doesn't even come into it, they're literally ignored totally.

He did fab.

Yep not interested either. You're right focus on things where there is potential.

I stopped watching cricket back in 1999, and we all know what happened then. What's cricket produced in the last 10 years? Nothing.
