Indian railways seeks Chinese technology for running bullet train
PTI Nov 26, 2012, 08.17PM IST

NEW DELHI: Railways today joined hands with China for cooperation in developing high-speed rail corridors in selected routes in the country.

Besides, Railways will also seek Chinese expertise in carrying out heavy haulage in dedicated freight corridors and developing stations.

"We signed a MoU with China for mutual cooperation in rail sector," said a senior Railway Ministry official, adding, "The agreement will remain in force for five years."

Chairman Railway Board Vinay Mittal and China's Vice- Minister of Railways Wang Zhigue signed the agreement. A MoU was signed with China on January 14, 2008 which has since expired.

Now an Infrastructure Working Group will be constituted under the India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue to work out details for the future cooperation in the rail sector, the official said.

Railways has identified seven routes for exploring possibilities of running high-speed trains known as bullet trains at a speed of about 300 km per hour.

Pre-feasibility study has been carried out for five corridors, said the official.

Japan is also keen to provide its technology to Railways in high speed rail corridors.

Railways plans to take up the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor on a priority basis as the government has given the in-principle clearance to the project. It is estimated to cost about Rs 60,000 cr to run train at 300 km per hour speed in the proposed corridor.

Lol, we haven't even done with the feasibility studies, and we already have Chini salesmen bragging about their products. :D

Interest only arises when you're going to implement it, and implementation is only possible after you're done with the feasibility studies. Until then, some random comments of the railway officials doesn't matter.

Hey , cut this crap now ... Only a news has been posted , nothing else ... No bragging , no sensible comments even ... So , dont get your panties in a twist just because railways is talking with the Chinese for the trains ...

Lol, prove it.

If any projects are implemented, then it'll be done by a global tender.

.
Go for Japanese and not Chinese tech....everything that is made in china is crap as far as I have experienced it!!!

It's because you are paying dirt for it, go for the Chinese quality meant for Europe/Americas and it will rival any Japanese brand on quality. And it will still be loads cheaper.

Other than following random news articles, i know how infrastructure development process takes place in Indian Railway. They can't give any project to any random entity without calling in for a global tender, specially a contract of this margin.

There is nothing wrong with Chinese trains. India should buy them if they are cheap and worth it.
