What's new

Indian Railways enters new league! Swanky 160 kmph engine-less Make in India train is too good

I was thinking you a nice guy but you proved otherwise...anyways the gentleman who posted this video clearly have intentions to derail your thread and humiliate Pakistanis..instead of reporting this person you are quoting me and another person just to humiliate or troll us...what you want to expect...?do you want I post pics and videos how Indian open defecate even on trains....

I've raised a technical query, i saw sleepers but no ballast. In my understanding of these systems, it is not a world wide practice (although ballast less tracks exist). Which is my original question and remains so.

PS: on point of you getting hurt, please note that i quoted video to support my question. I usually don't get into these silly trolling so rampant on forum these days.

I'm not on that boat.

One big advantage of a train set as against a locomotive-hauled train is that there are no engine reversal requirements. Train sets also allow for quick acceleration and deceleration, hence reducing the travel duration. According to ICF, train sets allow for better onboard utilisation of space.

Who is the manufacturer of this train?
Hi there!

IR is working on two similar model trains Train 18 (to be introduced this year) and Train 20 (planned for 2020).
Train 18 is an all seating arrangement while Train 20 is a sleeper class accommodation for long distance (Overnight travel).
What this means in India is that shorter distance (normally 8-10 hours one side journey) Shatabdi expresses will be replaced by Train 18 and Longer distance (12-16 hours and beyond) Rajdhani Expresses will be replaced by Train 20.

Here are the features.

  • One Train 18 coach will cost Rs 2.50 crore.
  • A Train 20 coach will cost around Rs 5.50 crore.
  • These trains would be the fastest in India when introduced.
  • Railways is reportedly planning to roll out two Train 18 by August this year.
  • Train 20 is likely to be rolled out on tracks by 2020.
  • Train 18 will be a fully air-conditioned chair car-type train.
  • Train 20 will be a sleeper-class type train for overnight travel.
  • During trial runs the two trains clocked 176 kmph speed.
  • However, they will run at a maximum speed of 170 kmph when commercial operations start.
  • The trains will be propelled by 6 motor coaches which would help in faster acceleration.
Train 18 features:

  1. On-board infotainment
  2. WiFi on board
  3. Automatic plug doors
  4. Plush luxurious interiors with diffused lighting
  5. Sleek modular toilets
  6. Underslung 3-phase propulsion system
  7. Stainless steel body
  8. GPS-based passenger information system
  9. Sealed gangways
  10. Latest generation bogies for better riding comfort
  11. Zero discharge vaccum-bio toilets
  12. Wide windows
Train 20 features:

  1. Two types of coaches – air-conditioned chair car and sleeper-type – will be manufactured. The sleeper type coaches will include AC – 1st class, AC-2 tier and AC-3 tier.
  2. Under-slung 3-phase propulsion system
  3. Automatic doors
  4. Aluminium body
