This is more of a suicide by police. He was apparently rich as he owns a Porsche. He wants to end his life because he was depressed as his law firm was not doing well. All the Nazi symbols are BS.

To be honest, no one knows why he did what he did. The police are still scratching their heads to his motives. Investigation is on going and we should wait until more information is available.

So far the police are not treating it as an act of terrorism. Fortunately, no body was killed. The man was an incompetent shot.

Ask the MH370 pilot or Germanwings Flight 9525 . No one knows what is brewing in someone;s else mind.
May be he did not have courage to shoot himself and thought of shooting others such a way no one is seriously injured and police resort to shooting him..

I would request you reassess your religious angle to this.. The man lost it all and essentially may have stooped into his love for Nazi memorabilia too much; but this was no Hinduism fuelled rampage. He was running out of time to make money and get back into his jet setting lifestyle made by his earlier success and felt cheated by the capitalist system perhaps, who knows. A stressed man who resorted to whatever beliefs to kill, perhaps his being Hindu and Indian may have earned him some discrimination at work(unlikely in Houston, absolutely unlikely); but it was not a core cause or even a core motivation. It could be Nazism or not, just basic stress and hatred at society.

It could also be sinister in that his being a civil lawyer may have had a case that conflicted with a particular cop.. but these are all speculations for public prosecutors and investigators to uncover.

Also, FYI.. the Hindu Swastika is clockwise, and the Nazi swastika is counter clockwise.

NEW YORK: An Indian-origin lawyer with apparent Nazi sympathies went on an early morning rampage in US' Houston city, shooting at nine people on Monday before he was killed by police, according to authorities.

Nathan Desai was wearing military-style clothing with Nazi symbols during the 20-minute shooting spree when he fired at passing cars.

Police said that they did not know why Desai went on the rampage hitting people at random.

Desai's name was written with the 's' capitalised in media reports in Houston, making it sound European, but his father was identified as Prakash Desai.

All of his victims survived but one person was critically wounded and five others hospitalised, Houston's Acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo said. She described the shooter as a lawyer who was having problems at his law firm. When police responded to the shooting, he shot at them and was killed when police returned fire, Montalvo said.

The shooter's father, 80-year-old Prakash Desai told KPRC TV that his son was "worried" because his law practice was not doing so well

Forty six-year-old Nathan Desai owned several guns to protect himself against his clients, some of whom were "funny people and criminally-minded people", his father said.

Houston Chronicle said that Prakash Desai is a retired geologist.

The daily reported that police found in his flat several military items that went back to the Civil War. Police found a Thompson submachine gun in his Porche and a 0.45 caliber handgun that he used against the police.




The Chronicle said that police used a robot to examine his car and his flat for explosives.

Indian sources have told that he was once seen watching Pakistani soap dramas. Experts have claimed that that might be how he got radicalised.

The media has almost not even covered it as extensively as anything else they usually do. The cnn.com doesn't even have this story. The powerful Indian media moved right away. Sad to see human lives are less valuable when a lobby moves.

They just released a pic from another shooting (Alfred Olango) where the sister said her brother had his hands by his side and was not threatening at all. Luckily somebody had a cell phone camera rolling and got this shot.
