This is the reason we do not see any real capacity improvement in Bangladesh armed forces. Current Bangladesh govt. will not cross Delhi's red line on anything. Many of us think that problem lies with the inadequate defence budget. But many countries with comparable defence budget is much stronger militarily than Bangladesh (Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar etc.) But the real problem is current govt. will not enhance the capacity of armed forces of Bangladesh which will obviously upset India and may cost big Husband's blessing for them.

Why does india has any red line on another sovereign nation's national development that heavily requires ports, finance, infrastructure? Are they asking BD to remain poor and underdeveloped for India's burgeoning ego in south asia?
Even military equipment? It's not like bd is india's equivalent of taiwan ,a rebel province without conclusion of civil war.

How about we start flirting with China just to piss off India!

Economically we are always flirting with China. Indian knows this and can't do anything about it.

India simply cannot offer what Chinese have to offer industrial investment wise.

But what India will really have a hard time swallowing is - if we increase defence capabilities with either Chinese or Turkish help.

They $hat their dhoties when we got our subs and they also did not like it when we got the 300mm MLRS and Bayraktar TB2s (if true).

BAL have castrated our military just to stay on power unchallenged. Just sayin...

it is not for lack of trying

These are approximate numbers
Pakistan exports to China $2 billion
China exports to Pakistan $13.5 billion

Bangladesh exports to China $0.86 billion
China exports to Bangladesh $14.5 billion

China does little of relevance for you. you will have Chinese taking credit for your exports to Europe/USA

Hehe, you failed to get my point. And China exports us things we can't produce...

I don’t want Chinese weapons because it’s second rate and they are not reliable source for spares in a war against Burma.

So India is doing us a favour.

I want arms from Turkey and Indonesia.

Almost everything India sells except agro stuff - we can produce at a higher quality.

Chinese exports to Pakistan and Bangladesh are for industrial inputs and machinery to substitute manufactured imports or for re-processing, value addition and manufactured exports to developed markets like EU/US. Like cotton in case of Bangladesh and steel and other industrial inputs for Pakistan. hence the large volume.

Bangladeshi and Pakistani exports to China are mostly finished product exports. Hence the lower volume.

Type of exports has to be considered and not just quantity....

ya weasel, pakistan,Bangladesh relies on those chinese exports to their nation for industrial output. For the few billion yearly export from china ,their local industries make a profit worth much more by exporting finished goods all across the world, using the industrial inputs imported from china.
These nations neither have the technology nor resources to substitute locally in a viable manner that remains profitable, for such a wide range of inputs at an affordable rate which are required for manufacturing, no other nation can replace China. An export ban from China will kill off much of the manufacturing base in BD or Pak. Even Indian Industries depend on China heavily.

Also even importing affordable alternative is better for the economy than sustaining a tax-draining local manufacturing which yield low return, the resources can be instead put into use for higher yield ventures.

Chinese weapons are bang for the buck. You get what you pay for. You can't expect Rolls-Royce quality with a Tata nano budget.

And China will obviously support burma.

We import lots of machinery and chemicals from india. We don't produce any machinery and chemicals.

We are totally dependant on india for spices, sugar and wheat. And if natural disaster hits us we have to import rice from india too!

God knows when we will be a self sufficient country at least on food...

Those toys would be at the bottom of the indian ocean within hours of any ACTUAL war between Bangladesh and India. Bangla army could sustain ACTUAL war for no more than 3 days

Do it . Don't whine like a child , no one is standing in your way
