Can this be the watershed moment for Indian sports like 1983 WC was for cricket? Fingers crossed.

Bad news from men's archery....Individual ranking round...Rai 31, Banerjee 46, Talukdar 53...Thanks God , it is not elimination round. :(

^^^ i think the seeding in team event will also be given by the performance in individual ranking round. right?

India finish last in Olympic archery rankings round

It was a disappointing start to the proceedings for India at the Olympics with the men's archery team finishing bottom of the heap at 12th in the ranking round held at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Friday.

The trio of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Rahul Banerjee combined for a score of 1969 on a day when defending champions Korea shattered the team world record with a tally of 2087 to lead the rankings.

Individually, Tarundeep Rai was the best-placed Indian at 31st with 664 points from 72 shots. Banerjee was at 46th with 655 points, followed by Talukdar at 53rd with 650 points.

For Korea, Dong Hyun Im set an individual world record with a score of 699/720. France finished a distant second in the raking round with a score of 2021.

After the ranking round, the 12 teams will shoot in a head-to-head elimination format. Each team will shoot four sets of six arrows (two arrows per archer).

The team with the highest total will win the match, with winning teams progressing through the draw until only the finalists remain.

If two teams are tied, a three-arrow shoot-off is held. If this doesn't separate them, the team closest to the centre of the target emerges the winner.

The two winning teams from the respective semifinal matches compete in the gold-medal match and the remaining teams compete in the bronze-medal match.

The Indian men will be playing Japan in the pre-quarterfinals on Saturday. The Japanese finished fifth in the ranking round with 2009 points to India's 1969, thanks to which they ended last on Friday.

The winner of India-Japan will meet USA in the quarterfinals. The Americans have got a bye after finishing fourth with 2019 points. France, China and Korea have also got byes.

Dont worry it was Ranking round only, not elimination round. Good thing is that they will not have to face the Koreans (The last three in the ranking round have to do that) in the next round. It will be 1 vs 64; 2 vs 63 and so on.... They will perform better in 1:1 situation.

Women ranked 9th. Deepika finished 8th (18th in first half and 2nd in second half), Bombayla 22 and Swuru 53.....

@sab what are the chances now for medals in archery?? what do u think made this debacle? olympic phobia again.

Women's team will bump into korea in QF. so very low chances of a medal in team event (barring any huge upset).

there's hope from deepika kumari in individual event.
