It's not just that but there is an inbuilt resistance to pvt player participation in defence within the Indian govt. look at the arty fiasco- many Indian pvt entities were denied the use of military ranges to test their products. Operating in this environment how can one expect pvt players to deliver?


I think there is enough of of call though within the emerging Indian pvt defence industery to open up the sector to them with some of India's biggest names behind them such as Ratan TATA and Ambani (who are investing VAST amounts into this arena) for things to change over time. The recent changes to FDI in defence indicate this.

There is a diff between FDI in retail and domestic industry.eg

1)intel chips are made in china but chinese cannot claim them as their own and rightly so s they will never get to know the architecture and so on

2)Media Tek chips on the other hand are produced by local chinese companies and is theirs only

Yes intel is not a JV but things remain like this only,,,,the foreign company even after tie up will not provide any critical technology to its indian partner
