NEW DELHI: Reflecting their close defence ties, the Indian Navy for the first time will take part in one of the world's biggest naval wargames hosted by the US in Hawaii in June next year.
More than 20 countries, including China and Japan, are expected to take part in the international maritime war exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC).

The Navy will be sending its warships for the multlateral exercise hosted by the US Pacific Command in which it has so far been only an observer, sources said here.

RIMPAC 2014 is expected to see the participation of all types of naval vessels and aircraft, including surface warships, submarines, surveillance platoforms and reconnaissance planes.

Navy sources said no final decision has so far been taken by the government about the ships and aircraft to be sent for the wargames.

India and the US have been enhancing defence ties in the last decade and the navies of the two countries have held the Malabar and Salvex series of exercises.

In the Malabar series wargames, Indian and American warships have held drills in either the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea.

The two sides had involved the Japanese maritime forces in the wargames in 2007 but India decided against having multilateral exercises after China raised questions over the intent behind such moves.

We should send our aircraft carrier to test it's abilities in a war like situation.

It's all about spying on your ship, it's sonar, It's radars, communication frequencies and signature of your ships. Everyone falls for it.

Because you alone are smarter than all the navies taking part?

U-2 is always observing the RIMPAC. How come.?
But that's not a reason to not take part. All navies including the IN will take whatever precautions they deem nessercary to protect their assets and classified info.

Just like with Red Flag '08

U-2 are already replaced by Global Hawk's. These planes had been used everywhere in Asia specially during the mass deployment in 2002 when U-2 made a historic flight over Indian and Pakistani formations. These planes don't just take snap shots they are equipped with very sophisticated radars, also scan the horizon for any communication scanner emitters. In today's day and age of AWAC's and satelite. They prefer flying a soviet era spy plane to observe a friendly formation.?

This country is known to spy on it's own mother, where does that leave the rest of the world in there eyes.? England too was spied on by US
