What's new

Indian navy ship arrived in Chittagong on a goodwill visit.

Boy that's a pretty old ship!?

Yeah it is a modified Kashin II class built in 1986. Well maintained though.

C'mon guys Goodwill visits are just that, nice formalities for friendly Navies. Navies have all sorts of ancient traditions like this.

We should be good hosts and welcome visitors.

They are still our 'Mehmaan'.

Hope it doesn't clash with any fishing trawler here and break down automatically like the previous incidents.:D
Why are you cursing the old Indian ship? If something of a clash really happens and the ship sinks in the shallow water of BoB, Indians will start cursing you as a JINX.

INS Ranvir, looking as badass as the Soviets wanted:

Well there are dedicated places sanctioned only for India at Chittagong where no other country are allowed to use and without any additional charge. While there is a provision for prioritisation of Indian vessels at the Chittagong port which maintain 80 per cent of the country’s exports and imports. We're getting access to north-east through it so its more than a goodwill visit.

Naval vessels (visiting naval vessels too) uses the berth at BNS Isha Khan.

There is no such reserved spot. There was a proposal by your government which has gone into hiatus after extreme opposition from the local businessmen & port authority. Nor there is any priority to berth facility.

Chittagong is the vital lifeline of our economy. Almost 80-90% of exports-Imports of our country pass throw this port. There's not enough space for ourselves. It's very foolish to think such an allocation will be made, nor it's an expression of good nature to make such an exorbitant request. As for your goodwill visits, they mean nothing to the officials. Hasina is your ally, the bureaucracy isn't.

As part of an ongoing bilateral naval exchange between Indian and Bangladesh navies, INS Ranvir arrived in Bangladesh for a goodwill visit. The Indian warship reached Chittagong port of Bangladesh on Monday morning.

The ship's officials and sailors welcomed the Chief of Chittagong Naval Staff Captain SM Moniruzzaman, as confirmed by Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) of Bangladesh.

The ISPR said, Bangladeshi naval cadets welcomed the ship in traditional style by playing a band. Earlier, the naval ship 'Sea Operation' welcomed the visitor when it arrived in the waters of Bangladesh.

As per the press release from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, 'Ranvir' meaning 'the Hero of Battle', is a frontline missile destroyer ship of the Indian Navy. The ship was commissioned in 1986 and has undergone a midlife upgrade in Jan 2008. It has participated in a large number of operational deployments, joint exercises with other navies and goodwill visits to many foreign countries.

During this visit, Indian naval personnel will interact with their counterparts from the Bangladesh Navy. In addition to joint training activities, friendly sports matches and cultural visits would also be conducted.

There is a proposal to visit specialized school for child 'Ashar Alo', and various historic tourist areas of Chittagong.

On the other hand, officers and sailors from Bangladesh Navy will also visit INS Ranvir. A passage exercise will be undertaken with Bangladesh Navy ships when INS Ranvir sails out from Chittagong on 27 July 2017, said ISPR of Bangladesh.

It's known from Indian High Commission in Dhaka & ISPR that, such goodwill visits are a reflection of growing bilateral maritime cooperation between both the Navies. It provides an opportunity to professionals from both sides to interact and exchange best practices being followed in respective Navies.

Well it may not be a priority in Bangladesh now due lack of capacity of the port we will see some progress in future. It would have been Chinese navy there if India-US-Japan didn't force its way out so stop blaming only Hasina. Now as there is competition unlike in pak China isn't going to invest much as Japan or India will purposed better deals: China should not try to compete for projects by offering low interest rates on loans
There is mongla port too with Japan's matarbari port and both Chinese & Indian investment in payra port, so basically we're successful in countering China while Bangladesh is pumping with foreign investment for now.
