Indian Navy receives 3rd destroyer of Project 15B

The Need of the Hour
Won't make much difference until you get at least a 1000 KM range cruise missile with them. For now, the range of Brahmos is not enough. Not even close. You are producing Frigates and Destroyers one after another but there is not much focus on increasing the range massively of cruise missiles.

The naval version is an anti ship missile, not a land attack cruise missile. Land attack cruise missiles are subsonic and require longer ranges to reach their targets. Anti ship missiles are generally in the bracket of 150-600km when it comes to range

The current range of 450km-500km on naval warships is pretty decent. It's being upgraded to 800km

Meh.. you've got no idea what you're saying

@Zarvan
Dude you are completely out of touch.
Even when Bakhtoras dig a tunnel, erect a bridge or construct a highway, its not just breaking news but a game changer. If they were chocolate, Bakhtoras would end up eating themselves.

I know what I am saying yes inducting Destroyers are great. But they are a package deal. All countries who have such destroyers also have cruise missiles with at least 1000 to 1500 KM range. That is because Frigate and Destroyer are dam expensive and you need to make sure you hit your enemy deep inside his territory while you are remaining at really safe distance. Your ships should be at Kochi waters and be able to hit Karachi. Which you with 400 KM range missile you can't.

Being in denial doesn't work. There is a reason why USA, China, Russia, UK, now include South Korea and in near future Australia as well are inducting large destroyers plus developing cruise missiles with more than 1000 KM range. They are not drunk or stupid. Tomahawk Block V has 1500 KM range and can hit a fast-moving ship with same precision as a fixed land target. Ukraine wars have also proved that you need missiles which can hit targets deep inside your enemy territory and do lot of damage.

Right now, India has enough destroyers and Frigates, but what they lack are cruise missiles with enough range to really turn them into a monster. Pakistan Navy also needs heavy Frigates, Destroyers and Submarines which have VLS to carry and fire long range land attack cruise missiles. Also, Pakistan should work with China to develop something similar to Tomahawk BLOCK V. As for India with current range of Brahmos their destroyers will have to come at a place where they would be easy targets for our fighter jets. But if they manage get a 1000 to 1500 KM range missile, they can attack us from a distance where they would be relatively safer.

Future wars will not be fought with missiles which only have 300 KM range. Future wars will be fought with new type of anti-ship missile which has 1000 to 1500 KM range and even more and can hit targets whether they are fast moving ships or targets on land. The cruise missile which Putin showed few years ago and claimed it has unlimited range due to nuclear fuel. That type of missile is the future along with guidance system of what Tomahawk BLOCK V has. Either you get that technology, or you will lose the war.

Brahmos has a maximum range of 650km, the 800km version is being tested rn. Imo it can be extended further.
Apart from Brahmos we have a lot of ballistic agni missiles, those can hit to a range of 5000-7000km (Agni V). This can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. Plus considering that India is now a part of MTCR regime the agni series range can be further increased.

Need more orders, repeat will do the work.
Yeah, they should..

Brahmos with range over 600KM will be inducted, it will more than enough as per navy requirements

your point stands true with regards to land attack capability, longer range and stealth is the key for that. India still needs to do a lot of work for that. however, my argument was about anti ship cruise missiles, not about LACM
