Indian Muslims want 'Ground Zero Mosque' relocated

Oh btw, the wife of Imam Rauf, who is behind this cultural centre, who is facing all the wrath on Talk shows and debates is of INDIAN ORIGIN!!!

How about that?!

One of the first qualifying statements I had penned down was that

Obviously I meant it for those in leadership or celebrity positions within the Indian Muslim community. On Indian soil or elsewhere.

I think after President Obamas comments, the mosque / cultural center should be relocated as it has generated too much controversy. It does fill my heart with sadness and dread about where we are headed towards. It seems some right wing elements are hell bent on instilling a sort of hatred towards islam. The majority of Americans however are hard working, honest , simple people. Muslims can show by example that we also are peace loving , law abiding and most of all sensitive to the local non -muslim populace . Appeasement should not be seen as a weakness. When there is fever, the temperature needs to be brought down, while a search for the cause is conducted.
Friends not masters......

A debate good and bad aspect of building this mosque.
If build then few hardliner outside the mosque raise the slogan of some kinda Islamic victory, where Islam has nothing to do,if somone built the mosque or not.
But being a muslim, I would avoid to support something which is very sensitive and trivial issue for the nation. Building the mosque near national tragedy spot is not much supportive idea.
We muslim shouldn't make this matter of ego, give a respect to the emotion of people of the land.
Even I would say President Obama and few people have lions heart who approve the project.
I ask sometime to my fellow muslim brother, if 911 happened somewhere in muslim country,do you allow to built a holy place to convict party next to seen of incident ?

Haider,

Thanks for your post---muslims have gotten themselves stuck with another issue at the worst time. Economy---immigration---jobs---stock market---election year---. The muslims culd not have chosen the least oppurtune moment and the least oppurtune location---.

The ground zero is not one block--nor two blocks---but approximately ten blocks---from the place of impact to where the debris fell.

This case reminds of the Masjid Shabh Bhar----

Masjid to bana di shabbhar mein

Eiman ki harat walon nay---

The pesh imam should have realized the moment this copnfrontation went ballistic---that it was better to step back---rethink----and relocate. Kill this aggression against the mosque and nip it in the bud---.

But then----there maybe another side to it as well---see what the christians and jews do to the muslims regarding this mosque issue---thn you can get a true picture if there is any relation possible at all amongst the two.

The truth to the matter is that the american muslims have been placed between a rock and a hard place by this imam for no reason---. Whatever needed to be done at this mosque can be done somewhere else.

The funny thing is that there are no plannings as to the design yet---there is no money collected for this project as of now---it is just a story and planning that is up in the air---there has been no substance to it being started up.

No architect has made any design of the center---. A mosque in a foreign land has to have a belssing of the people of that area---a mosque is a place of GOODWILL and if there is no goodwill in its formation---it defeats the purpose of being there.

Find another place---this issue has gone too far---there will be blood of the innocent spilt someday---it is not worth it.:pakistan:

It is what it is, it is judgmental, it is critical, yes it is looking down upon you for the crime of bending over to appease and cajole the whims of obvious injustices to yourself, for what? For acceptance? To fit in? Peer pressure?

I don't know about you, but I don't run away from a fight and stand up to the wrongs committed against me. Indian Muslims need to start showing some back and realize they have to be accepted for who they are and not be defined by others.

The white flag raised by Indian Muslims here for the Islamic centre does deserve some judgmental glares, some criticism and some anger. Grow a pair and stop bending over.

Dont you think one of the problems Islam faces today is the fact that various factions calling themselves "True Muslims" expect others to conform to their channel of thought....By hook or by crook....

Some use violence...others use political movements......
You can call them Wahabis, Taliban whatever.......

The point is....Your criticism of another Muslim as bending over to appease others is the same guise used by Taliban and extremists to justify their "holy war".....

So how are you any different from them then?

or

what makes you the judge of whats right or wrong?

Its the ability to be free thinking wrt to interpretation of Islam that has allowed a country like Pakistan to be free from the clutches of extremists.....

Now you subscribe to the same?

indian "muslims" are known to bow down to non-muslims wherever they go. It doesnt matter if they are in Asia or North America. They will bow down to a non-muslim and backstab a Muslim, that has become the nature of indian "muslims" today. Maybe they do this because they are afraid of a gujrat-style massacre happening in New York.

Hi,

Agood example is the jews in america 60 years ago----in a similiar situation as are the muslims of india---. The jews got a strong base in the form of israel----from that base---they started to strengthen their position---now they are determing who the president of the U S is going to be and what are the mainstream americans going to eat for dinner and which god they are going to pray that particular night.

So---in order for the indian muslims to be strong----pakistan and pakistanis need to change their mindset---instead of being all talk----pakistanis need to show some substance and be acknowledged and recognized as someone.

For that, pakistan needs to have one identity---ie pakistani---one direction---ie forward---one belief---ie stand together---.

When the direction of the way to move forward is to the right----for some reason my brethren believe that taking a left will get them there as well---.

Pakistanis are mixing ones identity with religion---identity and religion have nothing in common---identity is identification of your geographical background----religion is your belief---a confused and directionless mind gets them mixed up and the whole of the nation seems to be lost---going around in circles and at each others throats.

The indian muslims will be tigers when the rest of the muslim world stands behind them---when saudia arabia, iran, kuwait, turkey, abu dhabi, malaysia, indonesia andall other major nations stand together and say enough is enough--stop the persecution of muslims in india----.

You know---it has become fashionable to make a statement---bending over---to those young bucks----your time to bend over will come----just like mine----when you have kids and they start growing up and suddenly you find yourself to be making compromises in your beliefs and your stands that you took up prior to that---when your child gets sick or gets in trouble of some kind.

Time and children are a great equalizer of arrogance and ignorance---many a mighty emperor have fallen on their knees in front of their Gods---in total submission and humiliation---.

I tell those---please refrain from what you are saying---write it down---like everyone else---your time will come to bend over---it is a sign of time and nature---and ask your God for forgiveness now---in your young age---for saying those words----beause they will come to haunt you later in your life---one way or the other.

Wow, bigotry of highest order. When did Indian Muslims bow down to Non-muslims wherever they go?? What about Pakistanis who are going around the world begging for alms? What is that?? Bowing down or something else??. What about Pakistanis letting non-muslim Americans to carry out drone attacks on Pakistani people?? Is it Bowing down or something else?. Please, first look at yourself before judging others.

Indian Muslims will be more Indianized thats all.
When nations Saudi Arabia ,Iran,Malaysia rise in power or global influence, each will see the persecution of Muslims in India or any nation as an opportunity to propagate their own interpretation or version of Islam, for which they"ll race and compete amongst eachother.
At the end of the day its just an extension of their influence = a sign of power projection. To put it more crudely export their version of Islam. as if its some kind product.

By the time any of this happens Indian Muslims will find more triumph in associating themselves with General Indian society and history. Also by then Indian Muslims will come up with their interpretation of Islam maybe say Din-i-Ilahi which they"ll believe is superior than interpretations out there, and we are all back to square one.:pop:

Yes, Indian Muslims are bowing down to US and allowing their country to be used to kill their own civilians via drone attacks and what not. Oh wait! thats Pakistan

Yes, Indian Muslims go around the world depending on massive civilian and military aids. Oh wait thats Pakistan again.

YES, its Indian Muslims that have gotten Muslims worldwide bad names by indulging in terrorist activities. Oh wait again, its Pakistan and Arab Muslims.

Before you post unsubstantiated crap about backstabbing and bowing, at least take a moment to think about what you are writing before making an utter fool of yourself.
If there are hypocritical and bigoted "muslims" like yourself in the world, then I wouldn't mind backstabbing you.

Btw, do you even have any sort of explanation for what you meant by backstabbing and bowing or did you just pull it out of your self percieved superior bottom.

Oh please, Your self righteousness is oozing with crap.. Pakistani Muslims ko kis ney Islam ka Thekedar Banaya hai?

Even people from moderate arab counteries like Syria, Jordan and Lebanon think Pakistani people are fudging crazy and like unwarranted attention in the name of Islam.. Thekedari ka kam choro, not every Muslim is like a Pakistani Muslim..Islam consists of a diverse group of people with many different opinions... You dont represent what the entire muslim thinks.. and the moment you realize that maybe these narcissist tendencies that Pakistani Muslims like to carry will diminish,

Not an apt example MK....

Unlike the jews who did not have a Jewish homeland....not to mention their fledging numbers at 18MM only....

The Muslims have had a several countries that not only subscribe to the Islam as the state religion but also are the 2nd largerst religious group in the world....

Unlike the Jews, who due to their fledging numbers have opted to sideline their cultural and ethnic differences in favor of preserving their religion, many muslim countries yet have to overcome their superiority complexes wrt to other muslims....

The jews are highly organized....in fact, they have more of an "Ummah" mentality than Muslims.....let alone the sectarian violence that exists in Islam....

Hence, unless the Ummah as it was once enviosioned by the Prophet can be achieved in the present day scenario, a parallell with the Jews cannot be made.....

Also, I feel that unlike the Jews who are extremely politically motivated, Islamic countries have yet to reach a level where they can define world politics.....even though the level of resources available to the Muslims is 10 folds that of the Jews,

India example cited for "Ground Zero mosque"

They are the first couple behind what has been described as the ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ in New York. Kuwait-born Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife, Daisy Khan, who was born in Srinagar, have been subject to attacks (and much support) over their plan for a multi-story Islamic cultural center two
blocks from Ground Zero in New York. The couple may live and work in New York but they continue to maintain ties to India.

Imam Feisal, the person behind the Cordoba Initiative, has often visited India. He disclosed this during an interview back in February.

While discussing how Islam was still evolving in the United States, Imam Feisal pointed to his affection for India and has closely examined the evolution of Islam in India. He said while an American version of Islam had yet to emerge, Islam as practiced in India was unique. He also said earlier, “When Islam spread to Egypt, and Iran, and India, it restated its theology ... within the cultural context of those societies”.

He has often referred to India in his commentaries. When discussing the controversy over a Swiss nein to minarets, he wrote in an essay, “The Taj Mahal in India, considered the world's most beautiful building, has four minarets.”

His wife, Daisy Khan, immigrated to the US when she was 15, and has reminisced about her early years: “I was born in Kashmir, and throughout my childhood I discovered the value of celebrating multiple cultures and honouring all religions, and this prepared me for my future life and activism in the US.”

on a side note --I think that's great that Ms. Khan hails from Kashmir's summer capital!

Though I prefer that the Mosque deals primarily not just with Islamic services & inter-faith dialogue (as opposed to politics) ---I do hope the Islamic Center will also inform New Yorkers and other Americans about the ongoing atrocities being committed against occupied Kashmiris.

This is very important.
