Summed it up well again. It is not like the Mongol hordes are invading that would result in an en masse uprising. It is a prick here, prick there. Not everyone is hurt equally at the same time; so many that are unaffected, remain oblivious.
Why did the CAA-NRC evoke such a strong response? Because suddenly every Muslim felt that they were in the same situation, indiscriminately. For once, nobody thought that because I live in Lutyens, I will be not be affected. And nobody thought that this is happening only in Seelampur or Kishanganj or Barpeta.
There are two things that Muslims need to overcome in order to succeed (politically/economically/socially) in India:
1. The malaise of "not my problem" that afflicts Indian society in general
2. Understand that Hindus do not like you because of who you are, and not because of what you do.
Honestly speaking, Indian Muslims are in a totally different situation to African-Americans and the comparison is purely arbitrary and based on one or two simple cosmetic points. You and I both know this. More importantly, whatever America's blacks have or haven't done in the last hundred years clearly has had no impact on the deep seated issues America faces that have inadvertently (or some may say intentionally) given rise to a violent far right mentality.
The mentalities you are facing are different. It's not possible to go into great detail in a single thread or even a dozen threads but the underlying reasons/motivations for the white supremacist movement and the hindutva movement are different.
I would simply summise my feeling on this subject as that of India's Muslims needing a solution to their problem which is a solution that takes their ground realities into account. You can as readily compare blacks in America with Muslims in India as you might compare apples with pears.
That is not to dismiss the problems in question.
First and foremost, Indian Muslims should capitalise on the unity they demonstrated in the CAA protests and actually form a solid political block, united in posture.
The first bit of state level b.s. that will be thrown at you when you do that is: "Indian Muslims don't need a unified identity based bloc because India is secular and your religion doesn't matter in India because you are judged on the merits of your arguments alone and not on your religious identity, glory glory secular Hindustan" or some variation of that.
Now, your point no. 2 above shows that you already understand what I am saying here - the Indian establishmentarians will call you out because of who you are, not what you say or do. The sooner all Indian Muslims, be they TJ or secular or anything else, realise the truth in what you said, the sooner Indian Muslims will arise from their slumber and reclaim their heritage.
I know you take what Pakistanis say with a pinch of salt, since we have our own interests at hand, and that is the right way to be. However, the same Indian countrymen of yours who will criticise your position as "pandering to Pakistan" are in fact demonstrating precisely the problem you identified in point no. 2 above...
...Because of "who you are", your criticism of the state of India will always always be defined as pandering to Pakistan whereas the exact same words coming from a non-Indian will still be silenced with all sorts of rhetoric and insult but the wordings therein will fall short of the "pandering to Pakistan" framework.
