Indian Muslim student fights for hijab

Every educational Institution has a Dress code like any Armed forces. She is obliged to follow that dress code.

. . . .
The missionary ones

Don't know

The problem is not about institutions following a certain dress code (& as a result, banning bindis, Hijabs, pagrees etc). The problem is the discrimination (& double standards) followed by certain institutions to ban the Hijab only, while permitting the bindis & the turbans, & other forms of 'religious clothing'.

. . .
My question to you, is wearing hijab mandatory in Islam? If it is yes , then why we see many muslim girls not wearing it ? As for Sikh turban, it is mandotory for every Sikh man to wear it.

I know a lot of Sikh's who dont wear the Turban, they have even gone as far as to shaving. How is this different than what she is saying? She believes in "her" religion it is mandatory to wear the hijab, kind of like it is for the sikhs to wear the turban.

It's a privately owned Jain institution. She can go study in a Madrasa if wearing a Hijab is so important

That's probably like a Muslim eating pork and drinking alcohol. Not cutting hair AFAIK is one of the five basic tenets of Sikhism

If she is true to her faith and is still not allowed she probably will and should

Many liberal Muslims do just that... and so do not so religious members of the Sikh community

If she is true to her faith, she shouldn't be registered in religious schools of other faiths/religions (Jain, Christian, Hindu, whatever) like this one, but go to a secular, or national/public institution, where she'd be allowed to cover her head. If she is discriminated there (which I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be), then there is a problem. The Hijab is not her right in this private owned Jain school, & it is as simple as that. I agree with the Indian members here. The Hijab is not her right in this school. Even Islam preaches Muslims to fully govern themselves according to the non-Muslim country they're residing in, & if they have difficulty practicing their religion, they are free to leave that particular country & go back to the Muslim world. It's as simple as that. The Niqab is not the right of Muslims in France, Australia, Italy & other countries; & as Muslims, women who cover their faces cannot protest against these countries, or cry foul, but they are welcome to move back to Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan where they can wear this.

It really is of no concern to me and shouldn't be to any Pakistani the hypocrisies of a secular nation. The West has them as well. Lets work on our double standards right here in Pakistan first.

I have no doubt that there is discrimination.Heck we have seen such nasty comments from Indian Members regarding Islam on my threads so we can imagine what they do in real life.

There is a difference between private, religious institutions/schools vs public (government owned), secular institutions in India. This thread falls in the first category, which I don't find myself in disagreement with. If this thread was referring to the second category, that would have been a problem.
