NEW DEHLI: A Hindu extremist leader has confessed that he was involved in several bombings incidents. He claimed to have been a part of the India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express train bombing in 2007 in which 68 Pakistani nationals were killed, said a media report released on Friday.

Swami Aseemanand is said to be a leader of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a Hindu group that shares close ties with India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. It was reported that he had been arrested by authorities in November.

According to latest issue of Tehelka weekly magazine, Aseemanand confessed before a judicial magistrate and said he and his fellow RSS activists were involved in blasts on Samjhauta Express; at mosques in Malegaon in Maharashtra state and Andhra Pradesh’s state capital, Hyderabad; and a Muslim shrine in Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Aseemanand in his confession reportedly said that the bombings were in retaliation to Muslim militants attacking Hindu temples. “I told everyone that a bomb must be responded with a bomb,” Aseemanand exhorted.

At least 38 people were killed and over 100 injured in blasts that quivered the Muslim-majority town of Malegaon in September 2006.

Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad in May 2007 claimed 14 lives whereas three died and 15 were injured in blast at a Sufi shrine in Ajmer in October 2007.

Aseemanand’s confession has turned out to be a blessing for investigators who have been probing bombings targeting Muslims for several years.

Indian Pundit Confesses Bombing Samjhota Express​

NEW DELHI: Swami Aseemanand's confession to his role in the Pakistan-bound Samjhauta Express train blast in 2007 has also exposed the hand of the ultra right wing in several other attacks.

In this 42-page confessionary statement in Hindi given to an Indian, Aseemanand has unravelled the inner workings of the terror network.

Aseemanand lays bare an explosive story about the involvement of a few ultra right-wing leaders, including himself in planning and executing a series of bombings.

According to him, it was not just a group like the Abhinav Bharat that engineered the blasts. RSS national executive member Indresh Kumar allegedly handpicked and financed some RSS pracharaks to carry out terror attacks.

Aseemanand claims that Indresh had deputed Sunil Joshi a former RSS pracharak of Mhow district for this job. Joshi was expelled from the RSS after being accused in the murder of two Congress activists in Madhya Pradesh in 2006. In 2007, he was murdered under mysterious circumstances.

While Aseemanand was known for his vitriolic anti-minority position, in his confession it was the massacre of Hindu devotees at Akshardham temple in 2002 that was the real reason for their retaliatory terror attacks.

In 2003, Aseemanand came in contact with Joshi and Pragya Singh Thakur. Finally, according to him, it was the terror attack on Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi in March 2006 which was the real flashpoint for them.

RSS accuses CBI of leaking Aseemanand''s confession​

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) The RSS today accused the CBI of deliberately leaking the confession of Swami Aseemanand in the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast which, it alleged, was given under duress.

"This deliberate leaking of document confirms further the alleged interest of agencies is not to probe cases but malign the reputation of the organisations and individuals," RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said.

He claimed the statements leaked to the media confirmed that "they must have been taken under duress".

Noting that the confessions were "all contradictory and there is no credible evidence", he said lawyers were scrutinising the documents.

"Once again the CBI stood up to its reputation of being the Congress Bureau of Investigation," he said.

Aseemanand, who worked for Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Dangs in Gujarat, reportedly confessed about his involvement in the Samjhauta train blast before a magistrate.

Terror 'confession' turns political​

After Saffron terror link came out in the open with swami Aseemanand reportedly confessing to his role in Samjhauta express blast, the confessions have triggered a war of words between the Congress and the BJP. The Government, however, does not confirm the report.

While the spokesperson of the Congress, Manish Tiwari, expressed shock at the revelations, the BJP condemning the charges once again accused the UPA of using the Central Bureau of Investiation (CBI) as a tool to ruin the image of the Sangh Parivar.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Singh (RSS) called the confession a political conspiracy. Manmohan Vaidya of the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh said that if a court found any Sangh member guilty, they would be punished.

The confession, however, raises a number of questions, including how the government explains the new information given its stand on role of lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and HuJI in Samjhauta blasts, and also the fact that even the UNSC and the US position on LeT and HuJI role in Samjhauta blast.

Contradictions in the case:
