The Prime Minister's Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz on Monday said that the supersonic interceptor missile recently developed and tested by Indian would disturb the balance of power in the region.
In an interview with the state-run Radio Pakistan, Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan is not oblivious to its defence and that it would also continue to upgrade its defensive capabilities.
"Pakistan will definitely acquire advanced technology to improve its defence," said Aziz.
The PM's advisor said India was enjoying the cooperation of the United States as Washington believes a strong India is vital to contain rival China.
But Aziz said that Pakistan would also "raise its voice at the international level against these developments" that will shake up the regional balance.
India test fires supersonic interceptor missile
On Sunday, India successfully test fired its indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile capable of destroying incoming hostile ballistic missiles from a test range off Odisha coast.
The interceptor missile was tested by engaging a target missile – a naval version of the Indian Prithvi missile – launched from a ship anchored inside the Bay of Bengal fired on a hostile ballistic missile trajectory.
Getting signals from tracking radars, the interceptor Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile positioned at Abdul Kalam island destroyed the incoming hostile missile in mid-air in an endo-atmospheric altitude.
According to Indian media reports, the interceptor is a 7.5 meter long single-stage solid rocket-propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, a hi-tech computer, and an electro mechanical activator.
The interceptor missile had its own mobile launcher secure data-link for interception, independent tracking and homing capabilities, and sophisticated radars, Indian officials were quoted as saying.
