Indian GPS:- ISRO to launch navigation satellite IRNSS 1C on October 10

On a emergency basis, yes. But my estimate was keeping natural flow of work in mind. Threat can come from any where. We need to cover China, and eventually global reach.
See there is technology to send multiple satellites in one mission. 3 satellites / mission means 7 more missions are required. 3 years is enough.

ok good. mu bi mo adha life BBSR re biteichi...graduation, M.Sc..sabu BBSR re rahi sarichi..ebe kintu Odisha bahare rahuchi karana Odisha re job nahni...:(
Odishare kaunasi job nahin.

Shouldn't be that hard, right? If implemented in a five year plan.

But older satellites would have to replaced regularly. So final count would be more than 14.

Also Indian system is different from GPS as GPS does not have any satellite in geostationary orbit, while 3 of IRNSS's satellites would be in Geo-stationary orbit.

India may need more than 24 satellites for global coverage as Geostationary slots above US and Europe would not be available.

The key is, any point on earth should have access to 3 positioning satellites for a noteworthy accuracy, even if it is not geostationary, even then the data can be calibrated keeping polar orbit in mind.

We have the longest missile of 5k range. So we should try to have coverage till 5k km from our borders for guidance.

this is a permanent need for india. next stage comes making it work in atleast 8-10 languages with emphasis on a constant feedback and some solid scientific decisions.

Though we have SSBN we are not going to bomb Brazil or UK but the mater of fact we may target Shanghai or Beging in times of conflict. So we at lease have coverage to cover those areas.

Hey friends...( HowStuffWorks "How GPS Receivers Work" ) website shows that "The Global Positioning System (GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth-orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military navigation system, but soon opened it up to everybody else."

27 satellites or 24 which one is correct....?:what:

ISRO will launch the third of seven series of satellites to put in place India's own navigation system on par with US' Global Positioning System (GPS) from the spaceport of Sriharikota on October 10. The launch has been scheduled at 1.56 AM:-) on October 10, ISRO said today.........
Why Indian media has to exaggerate and sensationalize everything......
The IRNSS is not going to be on par with GPS, the Indian one is regional and the American one is global.....
