In a bizarre act of savagery, a 26-year-old man was thrashed to death by another man for spending too much time inside a public urinal.
The 40-year-old murderer allegedly lost patience and began pounding the victim as soon as the latter emerged from the urinal.
According to police, Saiman Ningeri, a resident of Mahim, entered a public toilet on Saturday around 8.30pm. In the meantime, Santosh Kargutkar from the same locality stood outside awaiting his turn.
According to the eyewitness statement, Kargutkar became enraged as Ningeri was taking too much time inside the toilet. So, he started banging on the door, said an officer from the Mahim police station. He added that as soon as Ningeri came out, Kargutkar grabbed him and started punching and kicking him.
Before people nearby could intervene, Kargutkar dragged Ningeri a few metres away from the toilet, and continued to rain blows on his chest and abdomen, said the officer.
When Ningeri lost consciousness, Kargutkar fled from the spot. Ningeri was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. The police was then informed, said another police officer.
We arrested Kargutkar from the area even though he hid himself for three hours by moving from one place to another. We are checking to see if Kargutkar has a record of previous crimes, added the officer.
