My personal opinion

India didnt want war, it just wanted a sir ji cal strike like drama to fool the gullible public

But unlike sir ji cal strike 1 drama which was just on the loc border and didnt cross any red lines for Pakistan

They were a bit more adventurous/stupid

They were betting Pakistan wouldnt respond and they could fool the idiots
But they crossed our red line and got slapped straight across the face

They have now been humiliated and are eager for some sort of response or small victory that gives them a way out of humiliation

By doing these "Surgical Strikes", India wanted to set a new normal. They may not wanted an actual war, but slowly they were trying to extend their leverage and military dominance over Pakistan. Too bad they've lost all of it in one day.
