Indian artillery gun shines in trials, to be displayed on Republic Day

Implications of a larger chamber capacity is that more powerful charge can be used and the shell can be hurled a longer distance.

For comparison the G6-52 with 23 Litre chamber gives 42km and 55km maximum range with Assegai M2000 ERFB-BB and V-LAP shells using the M90 BMCS, the G6-52L with 25 Litre chamber on the other hand gives an astonishing 50km and 67km maximum range with the M9 ERFB-BB and V-LAP using M64 BMCS.

Similar range increase can be expected with the DRDO ATAGS when compared with a contemporary 23 Litre chamber L52 howitzer, provided the charges are of higher power.

G6-52 figures from here, do give it a read.

The below comment made my day

Development of the ATAGS system has been divided into nine “work packages”, with each package competitively tendered within India. The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) won the tender to manufacture gun barrels, along with forgings giant, the Kalyani Group.

Other private companies have won roles too. Mahindra Defence Systems will make the recoil system along with Tata Power SED, while Punj Lloyd will make the muzzle brake. During full-scale manufacture, an entire eco-system of smaller Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers is expected to come up.

From @MULUBJA 's OP, the additional 2 liter chamber capacity allows a shell to go 45 kilometers more :o:
That's something isn't it?
