In a move to provide a vital fillip to the relationship between the two historic neighbours – India and Myanmar – the Indian Army yesterday handed over seven Bailey bridges to the Myanmar Army at Leimakhong army headquarter, about 20 km north of Imphal.

The General Officer Commanding Spears Corps Lt Gen AK Sahni, handed over the sevenBailey bridges to Commander Major General Soe Lwin of North West Command at Leimakhong.

“We are taking up this as a Prime Minister’s initiative for the development of border infrastructure”, said Lt Gen Sahni. “This will help in meeting the aspiration of the people and also to ensure security along the Indo-Myanmar border”, he also said adding, “This gesture by India will go a long way in providing a vital fillip to the relationship between the two historic neighbours.

The step has been taken as part of the 3rd Indo-Myanmar Regional Border Committee Meet between India and Myanmar held under the aegis of Spears Corps of Indian Army at Leimakhong from July 23-25. The meeting was attended by high ranking officials from both the countries.

The Border Committee Meet is a landmark event which provides an opportunity for representatives of security forces and government officials of both nations to discuss and resolve crucial issues relating to border management, bi-lateral cooperation and counter-terrorism strategy.

India is trying to help its ugly neighbor by sending advice, money and weapons. Now, it is the bailey bridge gifts to the Myanmar Army. However India tries, it wont be able to influence Burma to wage a proxy war against Bangladesh any time in the future. Economically, Myanmar is 100 years behind us, our GDP being 3 times larger than Myanmar.

The picture shows a small bailey 15m long. India must be hoping that the Burmese troops will cross our 6km wide River Padma with this kind of pontoons.

Despite western, US pressure on Myanmar, India continued to engage junta regime and because of this the militancy in north east states was taken care of by Indian army along with Burmese border police having there hideouts in jungles of Myanmar

India has nothing to gain by arming Burma against Bangladesh

mate use your brain and don't talk like other idiots!! Tell me why India would arm Burma against Bangladesh when it would achieve nothing by doing that?? Indian govt has better ties with BD govt than Burmese govt. We are just helping them because in recent years they have helped us alot while dealing with militancy in NE just like Bangladesh did help India while dealing with ULFA.

Burma helped India and India is sending military gifts to it. Bangladesh helped India and dealt a heavy blow to ULFA. But, India is reciprocating it by withholding Teesta water and not passing LBA by passing laws in the Parliament.

Why do you think India Myanmar are going to attack BD, Myanmar navy is also training in pakistan. It all depends on cooperation, you people should thank India for making Burma a democratic country rather than warmongering dictatorship.

sir, believe me India would not do anything without consideration of Bangladesh's interest. India have delayed many projects just because of bangladesh and offering stakes in such projects. Latest example...
