NEW DELHI: In two crucial appointments in the IAF, Air Marshal RK Sharma took over as the new Eastern Air Command chief at Shillong, while Air Marshal S Sukumar replaced him as the new IAF deputy chief at the Air Headquarters here on Saturday.
Air Marshal Sharma is the new in-charge of IAF in the entire eastern theatre at a time when India is undertaking a massive upgrade of military infrastructure in the region to strategically counter China. Air Marshal Sukumar will guide all the modernization plans of the force, including the almost $20 billion MMRCA (medium multi-role combat aircraft) project to acquire 126 French Rafale fighters.
