I think Omar1984 has entirely missed the point here.

The thread is not about poverty in India or Pakistan.Though if we take that into consideration then it is decreasing in India and increasing in Pakistan mainly due to the strain on Pakistani economy.

This thread is about GDP of India and Pakistan.

He didnt missed this, he knew all that and he has done this willingly.
Its called thread Hijacking his favorite hobby.

You are grossly unfamiliar with fast changing realities, In Pakistan more people are moving below poverty line with everyday that passes, while in India its the reverse. By 2015 poverty will be eradicated from all Indian villages. But Pakistan which has high population growth rate and low economic growth will be in the red zone.

Moreover, it also appears that Pakistan is not able to take in criticism. A country/society unable to take criticism in the positive way never will succeed.

yeah but its worse for india, nearly twice the number of people in Pakistan, live less than a dollar a day in india :(

India has 8 times as many people as Pakistan (total), so its not surprising that it has twice as many people in poverty.

Seriously, worry about your own problems first. At least our economy is growing at an acceptable rate and advances in living standards are being made. That is more than what Pakistan can claim.

 they should be happy that it is growing despite all the bad deeds :D

Well 60% of Pakistanis live under $2 a day, but some 75-80% of Indians live under $0.5 a day.

That is false. 65% of Pakistanis and 75% of Indians live under $2 a day, which 33% of Pakistanis and 25% of Indians living under their respective national poverty lines.

Sure, wonder whats wrong with this article who was written by an Indian, he must be trying hard to make Indians look bad eh?

Despite the economic growth and outsourcing of foreign jobs by western companies to India, majority of the Indian population still wallow in extreme poverty and disease. Behind India’s new-found economic strength are three hundred million poor people that live on less than $1 per day. Government figures may indicate a reduction in poverty. But the truth is, with increasing global food prices, poverty is spreading everywhere like a swarm of locust. Conditions are worst in the rural areas where close to 70% of India’s population resides. Statistics show, that 2.1 million children under 5 years old die of malnutrition yearly.

India is not be rated as the most corrupt country in the world as far as the figures go but corrupt practices exist here in India like any other place in Africa. Public school teachers rarely go for classes but still get paid at the end of the month. The ministry of education in India is struggling to identify thousands of so-called ghost-worker names of teachers that only exist on payroll – yet victory is far-fetched.

Mumbai is beautiful and businesses are flourishing but that is for the privileged few. The poor, who are majority, live in slums. They can only see and fantasize about the beautiful things in the city of Mumbai, but can't benefit. The streets of major cities in India, like the rural areas, are populated by persons who can’t even get the minimum amount of calories that is required for survival due to the low quality of food they eat. To many Indians, basic amenities such as proper sanitation, portable water, and health care are luxuries they can only get in their dreams.

Many young girls have resorted to prostitution as a way to escape from poverty and provide for their families. Increasing number of girls are dropping out of schools to look for jobs. In some extreme cases, parents force their girls out of school themselves. This ugly trend spells doom for India’s economy in the future.

As families cut back at the number, quality and quantity of food they consume per day; meat, a source of protein, is no more an option in the menu of many families. People now opt for less nutritional meals – just to put something in the stomach— which has a bad effect on child’s growth. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that 40% of children in India are suffering from stunted growth.

What the fck you bragging about then, both india and Pakistan have a long way to go to help their poor, but one advantage we have is our poor are relatively fewer. yours are measured in the hundreds of millions. And also because of the hight birthrate, every year tens of millions are coming into the job market. Also because of them being young, alot of third world countries are going to suffer, because if these young start having large families, there is going to a population explosion, imagine having 2 billion people to look after, with your resources, water, land, food are going to be in short supply.

Full respect to our Chinese brothers, they are widely acknowledged to have lifted the largest amount of poor, in the shortest possible time, their one child policy must have had a positive part to play in this.

LOL it is always the Pakistanis who bring up the poverty issue to make India look bad. All I am doing is pointing out that Pakistan's poverty problem is as bad as India's. However, the difference is that the Indian economy is growing and living standards are being improved, while in Pakistan the reverse is happening.

Listen for decades you had something called the Hindu growth rate, and we were growing faster, the cool thing is even though growth has slowed, we are getting a massive bailout from the US, China, Gulf countries, also signs are that the economy is recovering.

Nearly 80 pct of India lives on half dollar a day | Reuters

Aug 10 (Reuters) - Seventy-seven percent of Indians -- about 836 million people -- live on less than half a dollar a day in one of the world's hottest economies, a government report said.

The state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) said most of those living on below 20 rupees (50 US cents) per day were from the informal labour sector with no job or social security, living in abject poverty.

Around 26 percent of India's population lives below the poverty line, which is defined as 12 rupees per day, said officials.

My God that is horrifying, even labourers in Pakistan make about 200 rupees a day, so 26 percent of the population would be about 290 million people live on 12 rupees a day. These people are literally starving to death. india has no moral authority to lecture anyone on poverty.
