SYDNEY:
Australia crushed India by an innings and 68 runs in the second Test in Sydney to take a 2-0 lead in the series and leave Sachin Tendulkar still waiting for his 100th international ton.
The home side’s big breakthrough came when Tendulkar was dismissed for 80 by man-of-the-match Michael Clarke, precipitating a collapse as India saw their chance of winning a maiden series in Australia slip away. Clarke, who became only the sixth Australian to score a Test triple century, capped a splendid all-round performance when he coaxed an edge off Tendulkar to Michael Hussey at slip after an innings lasting 141 balls.
Tendulkar’s dismissal triggered a clatter of wickets with VVS Laxman (66), MS Dhoni (two) and Virat Kohli (nine) following in the next seven overs to expose the tailend to the Australian bowlers and inevitable defeat. Ravi Ashwin was the last man out, caught in the deep by Nathan Lyon for 62 to give Ben Hilfenhaus five wickets as India were all out for 400 in their second-innings.
Clarke pleased with win at home
“It’s the first series [when] I’ve been full-time captain in Australia in front of my home fans and the Australian public, so it’s important I stand up,” said Clarke. “I didn’t have a great summer [Ashes series] last year, so I’m really happy that I was able to contribute and put in a really good performance.
“I think our execution was very good. I thought the way we bowled in the first innings set the Test match up for us. To be able to take 10 wickets on a really flat wicket out there … they deserve a lot of credit.”
Dhoni looks to win remaining Tests
Meanwhile, the defiant India captain said his team were looking to level the series with matches remaining in Perth and Adelaide.
“We have lost the chance of winning the series but still with two more to go we can level the series so that’s what we’re looking to do,” he said. “Here, we didn’t put enough runs on the board. To win Test matches, of course taking 20 wickets is very important. But we need to give that cushion, having those extra runs on the board so that the bowlers can plan the opposition out.”

Bruv,

That 300 ton by Clarke was like effing awesome. Though i had expected better performances by Dravid and Sachin. India had all the heavy weights it needed.

i seriously cant understand why india is performing so badly this time till now .

This australian team is not nearly as strong as the ones that india had to face in australia in 2003 and 2007 but still india gave them a tough fight in the tests . this time it is almost a surrender even with a much weaker Australian team.Escapes me and most.

Problem is firstly confidence. For some reason they look nervous and on the back foot as soon as the real action starts. Good players dont become bad overnight. The indian players are used to playing on Indian tracks and due to the financial offerings of the IPL the players dont have a need or desire to practice overseas. In the 90s people like Ganguly, Dravid, Sachin and Kumble and Srinath came to the UK and practiced and developed - now why the heck would they want to leave the comfort zone of India where they are more popular than film stars and have more money than anyone?
The whole ethos of playing abroad and getting practice on variable pitches must be introduced because as i say good players dont become bad overnight - its almost like watching 2 teams play when watching India home and away.

It has lot to do with the captaincy ...if your head is not good rest assure your rest parts will also be not.... the problem is dhoni's captaincy and his performance ...he is a laid back kind of character which may be successful in home conditions where you have an advantage playing but in aus you need to be on your toes all the time and be aggressive all the time...but dhoni is looking like just going through the motions ....india had aus at 35-3 but at the end aus ended up with ~645 runs with the lost of just 4 wickets that is 600 runs for the lost of just 1 wicket now that is hell of a bad performance ...even bangladesh would be ashamed of this

The second part is dhoni as a batsman compared to ganguly who captained india in aus during 2003 and 2007 who had a relatively better batting technique than dhoni where as dhoni lacks any such technique to cope up with allien conditions ,,,in sub-continent he may play some strange shots and score tons but it will not work where the ball is doing a bit....now if your captain is not performing the rest of the team mates who are not performing also tends to get bit relaxed ....because when a captain is blamed for the same thing as rest of guys then what is the logic to drop someone from the team for the same reasons
