ISLAMABAD: While India is ready to join Afghan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA), Islamabad is reluctant to include a third country in the arrangement.

Pakistan recently turned down a suggestion of including India in transit trade agreement with Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

“We have conveyed our stance to the Afghan government in this regard,” an official of the commerce ministry told Dawn.

According to the official, inclusion of a third country in a bilateral arrangement does not make sense anyways but more so in case of India. “There is a pro-Indian lobby in Afghanistan which wants Islamabad to allow Indian goods transport via Wagah border” the trade officer said anonymously.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of Asia summit said that India was ready to join the APTTA. She said India has created facilities to receive Afghan trucks coming through Pakista
n.

Indian demand for joining the treaty is based on the perception that it will allow India to export goods via Wagah border to Afghanistan but for obvious reasons Islamabad is not inclined to grant the facility at the movement.

As an alternative India is investing in port project at Chabahar in Iran for access to Afghanistan market but Wagah is the most economical route for it for exports to Afghanistan and onward to Central Asian States.

With the support of Asian Development Bank, Pakistan has initiated a project to establish three land port authorities at Wagah, Landi Kotal and Chaman border points.

Once these land ports are established, trade on land route will be facilitated, the official in the commerce ministry said.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar received Owen Jenkins, British Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Afghanistan-Pakistan affairs, here on Wednesday.

Jenkins was accompanied by British High Commissioner, Philip Barton and Head of UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) Joanna Reid.

During the meeting, they expressed unanimity of views on efforts for peace and development in Afghanistan which would help achieve stability and progress in the whole region.

They also agreed that the Asia Conference would play a contributing role towards achieving this objective.

The visiting team appreciated the progress Pakistan and Afghanistan have made in the CASA-1000 energy project.

The finance minister shared with Jenkins the details of important developments in the Pakistan-Afghanistan economic cooperation. He apprised Jenkins of the headway made during the recently concluded Joint Economic Commission meeting, especially in the realm of trade facilitation.

He said that Pakistan has undertaken Kabul-Jalalabad highway project which is progressing well as it wants to promote regional connectivity with Afghanistan.

India don't want to play cricket, which very basic thing and play politics in it that Pakistan don't get any benefits from it and asking to give them route. Say big NOOOO until they make normalize the relation and give permission to play all games without any politics and remove trade barriers from our exports to India.

And then pakistani say we dont talk.
what is the point of talking if there is going to be NO for every development policies of the region ?
If these talks also fail, dont expect talks anytime soon.
When did pak says no for talk it is every time u run away from talks when we bring issues like kashmir siachin sir creek

Did you read my post properly ?
I said pak says NO to development policies of the region, hence india says there is no point in talks.

You guys don't establish a basic relation like
  • Games
  • Student to student exchange programs
  • Cultural exchange programs
and still talking bullshit. Grownup and learn how to respect others

Games- where? In Pakistan nobody comes, in India you won't come.

Student to Student exchange program- ever heard about SAARc or south Asian University in New Delhi?

Cultural Exchange program- Almost all of your top musicians and artists stay in India more than they do in Pakistan.

Add to that, India already has given MFN status to Pakistan but Pakistan is yet to reciprocate.

100s if not 1000s come to India for free medical treatment.

India has offered its stattelites to its SAARC fellow members, but only Pakistan has rejected the offer. All other nations have shown interest.

No need to give either of them any access. If they want to trade they can use Chabahar. Pakistan doesnt need Afghanistan for central asia either. Our best route to central asia is from china and is also the safest. We can capitalise quickly on the vacuum currently in central asia as india is not present there much.

If I am not mistaken, you are right now carrying out huge military operations to reclaim your own land from the Taliban's. Secondly how exactly do you plan to fill in the vacuum in Central Asia. You don't have a big enough market to purchase their products, nor you have money to invest their, nor any product which you can export to them.

Now do some research on your post and then tell me that your post reflect the current situation or not:hitwall:

Anti taliban operations are limited to one district ie N.Waziristan which is quite a large distance from karakoram highway and Gilgit Baltistan which is the safest region in Pakistan. Central asia requires ports which only Pakistan can offer to them and only having this can allow us to gain a lot from them. And we wont have any competition.

Are you kidding or what ?
Which team is ready to play in pakistan? After much begging and throwing money, zimbabwe agreed to play.
Your military will never agree for student or cultural exchange they are very much afraid of the fact that their theory of india being anti-muslim will be totally exposed. Only ppl who come to india are journalists and in pakistan they are taken to cleaners.

That leaves only the hafiz saeed & co who sneak across the loc .

I have mentioned some of the initiatives taken from Indian side to improve relations. Which point do you don't agree with? Pakistani Patients coming to India for free medical treatments or artists coming to India? Hell, one of them is also seeking Indian citizenship.

Providing a port does not mean you fill any kind of vacuum. FYI India has an air base in the Central Asian region. That is what filling a vacuum looks like.

Ok lets see how initiate Indians are

  1. All Pakistani artist force to leave India (How supportive)
  2. No sport with Pakistan (How sportsmanship Indians are and even US and Russia didn't did this)
  3. Trade barriers with Pakistan (Excellent approach of trade )
  4. Pakistani students attacked in India ( India's biggest achievement)
  5. Pakistani author's attacked in India

And list is going on. So keep out from propaganda dream and face the reality. Google all above to confirm my post.
