The last time these two sides clashed was way back in 1992 in Asian Cup Qualifiers in Kolkata, where Iran outclassed the hosts 3-0. India have beaten Iran just once - in final of 1951 Asian Games where they beat them 1-0

Iran didn't have the best of starts to their qualifying campaing as they drew 1-1 with Turkmenistan but they went berserk against Guam thrashing them 6-0.

India have so far lost 1-2 to both Oman (at home) and Guam (away) and coach Constantine considers 'only a win' as a satisfactory result against Iran: and only collective cohesive attacking and defending will get his side anywhere near to an upset .

India are not yet mathematically out of contention from progressing out of the group, but losing against Iran will be a big blow to an already bleak hope
