India and UAE signed an agreement to streamline the entry of Indian contract workers in the Emirates. It provides for an electronic contract registration and validation system to safeguard and protect the interest of migrant Indian workers. The UAE - India agreement was signed in presence of the Union Minister of overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and UAE Minister of Labour Saqr Ghobash in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
The electronic system to maintain the registry and contract details of the workers will be on line within four to six weeks. It will be applicable for blue color workers and NCR passport holders. Mr. Vayalar Rabi said the move will facilitate a legal and transparent migration of Indian Workers. It will also protect the interest of workers as well as the employers and check any violation.

The UAE labour Minister said is currently is committed to cooperate with India in ensuring the transparency of the job contract so that the wages, employment conditions and benefits due to the workers are known to them before they leave India for job in UAE. This is the first such agreement signed by UAE with any country in the world.

I really don't find it a good news, would have been good if it dealt with rights of workers. Workers from subcontinent are treated like mules, they are paid less..

God damn poverty..

Still the workers go there in hordes. Which tells me that at the end of the day, it works out to be a better deal for the workers.

Thats because of unemployment in their countries. Better deal would be employment within their own respective countries.

Anyway whatever makes you happy.

My being happy doesn't have anything to do with it.

Point is, the workers are happer than they would be otherwise.

I never meant that they are in the perfect situation. But they are better off than they would be without this.

even muslims???

Why would muslims laborers be treated differently?

On topic, the e-verifcation system would be good for workers because it will authenticate visa and work contracts. That way unscrupulous agents based in India can't create fake contracts and mess with their lives which is the primary reason why laborers who don't read their contract or don't verify them get stuck in exploited situations.

Its a good move to protect interests of Indian workers and is a long time coming.

Sometimes i think why Gulf countries take labour from India? Why do not they use their labour force???
