23-Mar-2015 13:05:00
The Indian contingent left the country to take part in the AFC U-23 Championship.
The India U-23 national team left for Dhaka, Bangladesh on Monday morning to compete in the AFC U-23 Championship, which will also serve as the preliminary step for qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
India, who will be coached by Savio Medeira, have been placed in Group E along with Uzbekistan, Syria and hosts Bangladesh.
India will start their journey in the tournament on March 27 against the Uzbeks while they will face Syria and Bangladesh on March 29 and 31 respectively.
There are no major surprises in the travelling squad with a long preparatory camp being the main yardstick for selection.
All four players, namely Sandesh Jhingan, Pritam Kotal, Prabir Das and Holicharan Narzary, who had joined the camp late because of their involvement with the senior national team, have made it to the final 23.
Only six members of this squad, namely Amrinder Singh, Sankar Sampingiraj, Sandesh Jhingan, Siam Hangal, Pritam Kotal and Thongkhosiem Haokip, were part of the Indian team that took part in the Asian Games in September last year.
The notable exclusions in the squad include Sporting Clube de Goa goalkeeper Ravi Kumar and Royal Wahingdoh attacker Nadong Bhutia while the likes of Mauvin Borges, Udanta Kumam, Seminlen Doungel and Brandon Fernandes missed out due to injuries.
The complete 23-member squad :
GOALKEPEERS: Amrinder Singh (Pune FC), Albino Gomes (Salgaocar), Rehenesh TP (Shillong Lajong).
DEFENDERS: Abhishek Das (East Bengal), Satish Singh (United Sports), Sankar Sampingiraj (Bengaluru FC), Deepak Sumnath (Bhawanipore), Bikramjeet Singh (Bharat FC), Sandesh Jhingan (Sporting Clube de Goa), Pritam Kotal (Mohun Bagan).
MIDFIELDERS: Germanpreet Singh, Prabir Das (Both Dempo), Nikhil Kadam (Pune FC), Dhanachandra Meetei (Churchill Brothers on loan from Pune FC), Siam Hangal (Bengaluru FC), Manish Bhargav (Mohun Bagan), Avinash Rui Das (East Bengal), Rajinder Kumar (Bharat FC), Jayesh Rane (Mumbai FC).
