India to train Kyrgyzstan armed forces​

New Delhi, July 5: India will be sending a team to train Kyrgyzstan armed forces in UN Peace Keeping Operations and impart English language skills to them.

The Indian Army team will be arriving in Kyrgyzstan by the end of this month itself

India offered its assistance to Kyrgyzstan in a wide range of areas to strengthen its defence and security capabilities.

Defence Minister AK Antony made this offer during talks with his Kyrgyzstan counterpart Major General Abibilla Kudayberdiev in Bishkek on Monday.

The talks took place between the delegations of the two countries immediately after the arrival of Antony in Bishkek.

During the talks, Antony said though the present level of defence engagements are rather limited, there is potential to mutually enhance the scope and scale of activities in a gradual manner in areas of mutual interest particularly in the field of military training, defence research and development and production of defence armaments.

"We can explore areas for cooperation in research and development in high- altitude base agriculture, plantation, animal husbandry, poultry, food processing that would also help generate rural employment and remove poverty," he said.

Appreciating the support of the Kyrghyz authorities in international efforts against terrorism and drug trafficking in Kyrghyzstan, Shri Antony said the joint working groups on counter- terrorism should meet regularly to share information on the issue.

Major General Kudayberdiev thanked Antony for his offer of cooperation in both military and non-military areas, and accepted the Indian Defence Minister's invitation to visit India shortly to take the cooperation forward.

See how defense ministry is managed by someone from INSIDE the defense forces in other countries while we give it to useless civilian babus who don't understand jack about defense. At least MOD should be under the tri-service command entirely, with a three star general/admiral/marshal representing the MOD in the parliament rather than someone that is appointed on the merit of just being a part of a party or a coalition.
