India to seek international recognition for Hasina’s government

Why is no one talking about the big issue? That China has offered their support to Hasina? ;)

They weren't prepared for this. Their grand scheme of getting Chinese support and Bangladesh being a part of ASEAN to counter India has just been dashed. Give them some time to recuperate! :(

Why is India taking sdes in this???

No one wants to talk about the elephant in the room.

Other elephant apart from Hasina.

Cause the other party is rabidly anti Indian and is alliance with Islamic extremists. Last time they were in power, they harbored all sorts of anti Indian terrorists group. India doesn't want a repeat of that happening.

I have discovered what is actually wrong with Islamic extremists. They actually believe god exists.

Funny right?

US to work with Hasina govt

Despite disappointment of the January 5 general election, the US will continue to work with the government of Sheikh Hasina, says US Department of State.

“We continue to work – of course we will, but while at the same time making clear our concerns with the election,” said Marie Harf, deputy spokesperson of the US Department of State.

She was replying to a question on the new government of Bangladesh at a press briefing in Washington DC on January 13.

Asked whether the USA will recognise the government, Harf said, “Well, that’s not exactly how it works. We obviously work with governments who are elected, but in regards to these elections themselves, we have already made clear our disappointment with the elections.”

The election did not credibly reflect the will of the Bangladeshi people since almost all of the seats of the new parliament weren’t contested or had only token opposition, she said.

“So we’ll make clear our concerns when we have them,” Harf said.

There you go, business as usual.

If anything, it is a lesson for BNP-wallas, that they should not have relied on their foreign friends, who will talk, but in the end deliver nothing. As usual incompetent BNP failed again.

Hindsight is always 20/20. As if you guys here weren't pinning your hopes on foreign intervention! The fact of the matter is that it was clear from the beginning that the west would only offer lip service and China simply doesn't care. The elections were held according to the constitutional requirements, so from that point of view no one can call them illegal. The only way the west could really step in is if there was a "Bangladesh spring" and we all know how the march for democracy went and that was before the elections. Now there is no chance of something like that happening. BNP as usual made a terrible move similar to what they did when they were in the power by antagonizing India unnecessarily and then ignoring India's repeated friendly gesture last year. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer. ;)

I always had a feeling BNP-Jamat would fail because of their incompetence, I predicted as much in my earlier posts.

If BNP is not anti-India then they will no longer be a party, that is their reason to exist. So your analysis I believe is wrong.

The only silver lining is that now India's role in Bangladesh is much more exposed than before to Bangladesh public. That cannot be good for India in the long term.

Whats funny is that had they participated in the election, they might have even won it. Revoking the CTG setup was the master move, and BNP fell in that trap

I suggest BNP and Jammat to stop everything like Hartal and cause of street-destructions and leave everything just up to the common non-political people if they are interested to react against BAL govt moving from the comfort zone.

What BNP and Jamat can do is make awareness and awareness among people for next few years, but the decision is people's.
