In December 1999-January 2000, Azhar was freed by the Vajpayee government in exchange for passengers on the hijacked Indian Airlines Flight IC814 that was parked by terrorists in Kandahar.

After backing JeM boss Masood Azhar at the UN, China now stalls red corner notice against Zakir Naik at the Interpol

NEW DELHI: India on Thursday maintained that it will "continue" to make all out efforts to bring terrorists like Maulana Masood Azhar based out of Pakistan under the sanctions of the United Nations.

"I can only say that we will continue to make all efforts to bring terrorists and their entities operating out of Pakistan under the sanctions of regime of UNSC 1267," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters when asked whether a fresh dossier will be submitted by India in UNSC against Azhar, also the founder leader of the UN-designated terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

In December 1999-January 2000, Azhar was freed by the Vajpayee government in exchange for passengers on the hijacked Indian Airlines Flight IC814 that was parked by terrorists in Kandahar in Afghanistan.

MEA spokesman Mr Kumar said the UNSC sanctions under 1267 provision is "a powerful tool available to all the countries which can be used to cripple terrorism ad terrorists entities which are operating".

Meanwhile, independent sources and media reports suggest Masood Azhar had lately gone "silent" but has started making anti-India public speeches yet again urging youths in Pakistan to JeM to "carry out jihad".

There are also impressions that Masood Azhar has started reactivating his organisation once Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed has backed a little known political entity, Allah-u-Akbar Tehreek (AAT) to contest ensuing general elections in Pakistan.
