India to move fencing at Bangladesh zero line

It seems Indian govt wants to prevent its citizens from crossing over the border to seek employment in BD. It is causing brain drain of India. BD progress is much higher than India.

The problem is not in india, it's here in BD. India is simply taking advantage of it.

I don't blame them either... they are driven by their national interest after all. But what we are driven by? That's happening when the government claims bilateral relations with India is at its best. If this is an example of "best relations" than wonder what's the state of our relations with other countries!

Also, this meeting between the central government of India and the Indian states bordering Bangladesh is quite significant, just months after the exchange of enclaves between Bangladesh and India completed. I guess the governments of these provinces have been continuously chirping about the loss of land in the land boundary agreement, so the central government has come to a resolution to compensate them by occupying the no men's lands.

.
In many places there is no such 'no mans land' between Indo-BD border, it runs through villages and even homes.

fair enough, However Building on the no mans land was the cause of 2001 border incident. So india should tread carefully here.

Shouldn't the fence be in Bangladesh's interest too? This will stop or at least reduce smuggling of drugs and phensedyl, border killings of illegal immigrants, border crossing of criminals and people wanted by law to avoid prosecution? We are spending on it but Bangladesh can benefit from it too, and no where the article says that we are building it in BD's land.

It makes the pole vaulters and smugglers job much easier. Need a pole to do whatever you want and within a moment you are on the other side. Gives little warning chance for border guards.

.
Lol Joke of the Century!!!!
Care to explain???

We just want to stop pole vaulters

But, according to a statistics of the govt of India, there are 500,000 pole vaulters from India to BD land in search of a meager source of income. India would do us a favor if they ask these pole vaulters to go back to their motherland and use them all in the construction of border fence.

We are fed up with a million plus Burmese refugees and now more than half million Indians asking for just a shelter. At least now I am happy to find India is taking good measures to stop that flow. But, I wonder how India will build fence on/across/along the rivers?

And the next move will be claiming BD land as no man's land and the so-called 'patriotic' regime of BD will support the indian claim even louder than the indians themselves while Khaleda will be busy with another round of facelift for calling meetings with her sycophants!

Please build a wall so high that Bangladesh will forget there is a country called India.

You don't need a wall for that. Just close your eyes & pretend that we don't exist.

But, according to a statistics of the govt of India, there are 500,000 pole vaulters from India to BD land in search of a meager source of income.

According to Indian government, some 15 million illegal Bangladeshi immigrants currently live in India.

It is causing brain drain of India. BD progress is much higher than India.

Progress in what ? Economy? Human Development? Infrastructure? Industrialisation ?

Last time I checked, your GDP (PPP) per capita was half of that of India. Stop pretending that you're some kind of 'Asian Tiger' economy.

India will get 16 crore thanks if it build the fence at 150 yards inside from the border as per international law.But braindead indians in this forum think that we oppose fencing which is not true. You can build great wall of China in your land border,we don't care. But do that at 150 yards inside.

We have already built the fence wherever land is available, but what if there is no land available to leave space? There are many places where no mans land is 3 inches wide.

.
Good step, it would help preventing the unnecessary killings of BD infiltrators.

Also, govt needs to deploy more battalions of Assam Rifles on border while State police should be equipped for CT ops.

I wonder how many thousands of acre of land will be recovered in this way? The reality is it is quite difficult to dislodge people who already have built their houses very near the border line. So, Indian govt policy is not to make their lives harder by evicting them.

However, BD govt should strongly oppose the move because it is against the international practice. Can it oppose?

Well, there's something called land acquisition, which is an essential part of any infrastructural development in this part of the world. They shouldn't evict them, rather relocate them with proper compensation.

Can the government oppose? Of course it can as it has done in the past. But that will solely depend on their willingness...
