It does actually. For starters our soldiers won't be injuring themselves. Border ceremonies can be a good way for the people and the armed forces of either side to bond. I know it has the opposite effects in the case of Indo-Pak. But hey we are unique. I am not sure about what happens at Indo-China border.

Well Circus ( the normal one not this one) gives jobs to hundreds of artists and tax to the govt. along with entertainment to the population.

i think the pakistani side has not been able to take advantage of this thing as India has did.

I will describe what is along Indian side of this circus.........in Ferozpur................A theme park , forteress persevered in a half broken condition of 1965 war............... a small man made lake used for boating ,couple of resturarents ,cafeterias , fast food courts, taxi service.............etc etc etc etc etc etc

Ask them ..........do they hate this circus who are getting there bread from this CIRCUS

.
and you are from which city????............

National Capital

We already know how much our neighbours loves us...................dont we???

No you don't. You just going by the jamaati razokars and bnp radicals.

In border towns where there is no big malls or amusements parks....where there is hardly any economic activities going on/.....................this is one of the best option..................in couple of years the area around that points will develop in tourists hub

There are lots of better ways to boost economy then flaming hate and silly competition.

Also, you see it as circus but forget what pakistani thinks of it?? In the end its just a worst decision.

Also, you see it as circus but forget what pakistani thinks of it?? In the end its just a worst decision
It is a worst decision because Manmohon did it......................It would had been best if Advani uncle did it.

Pakistanis loves us..................dont worry about them

India to have `Wagah in the East` now
New Delhi: The country will soon have a 'Wagah in the East' along the Bangladesh border where troops of both countries, dressed in full regalia, will perform the retreat-- ceremonial lowering of flags -- similar to the tradition prevalent along the Indo-Pakistan border.

The decision was taken during the five-day joint coordination meeting of border forces of India and Bangladesh here.

"We have taken some new decisions. Something apart the usual beaten track.... We have a joint retreat ceremony at Attari Wagah border where the Pakistani forces and BSF join together in the retreat ceremony lowering the flags.

"We have decided in-principle to have a similar joint retreat ceremony at the Petraploe border (along Bangladesh frontier)," BSF Director General Raman Srivastava told reporters here on the conclusion of the joint border talks with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB).

The two sides will be examining whether such ceremonies, which they hope will be symbolic of the "good relations" between them, are possible at Akhora and Phoolbani too.

"We have decided to set up a joint committee to explore the modalities methodologies and the other relevant issues of this ceremony and hopefully within a couple of months we should be able to start such a ceremony after working out the modalities," he said.

"We hope the ceremony will be even more beautiful and more congenial than the ceremony at Attari and Wagah. In due course of time, it will become a major tourist attraction like the Attari Wagah ceremony," the BSF DG said.

The force, according to a senior BSF officer, would also deploy its recently inducted women personnel to carry out the ceremonies at this frontier.

India and Pakistan have been traditionally hosting the flag lowering ceremonies at the Wagah Attari border for many years now and the event is attended by a huge number of people from both the countries as well as foreigner nationals.

Greetings and gifts are exchanged by officials at this frontier during national festivals like Independence Day, Republic Day and festivals like Diwali, Holi and Eid.

The BGB delegation, till recently known as the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), was led by it's Director General Major General Rafiqul Islam.

An incredibly stupid decision.

First, most important and which is enough in itself, it is utterly demeaning to our servicemen and women to make them monkeys in a spectacle. The drill performed in that joke of a ceremony is utterly idiotic, and whoever dreamt it up ought to be shot.

Second, the worst, lowest class of street-loafer jingoism is generated among the audiences of both nations, and there is no reason to believe that the same thing will not happen at any boundary where it is performed, UNLESS........

Third, the ceremony is full of belligerent, aggressive posturing. It is clear that it is not a ceremony between two friendly nations; only nations which hate each other can go through this imitation of barn-yard animals preparing to do battle.

Has the DG BSF nothing better to do?

Totally agreed with Joe. First of all to call it a "RETREAT" ceremony is itself a complete travesty. The "RETREAT" or "BEATING RETREAT" as it is also called is a solemn ceremony replete with dignity. It signifies a tribute or homage to the efforts and much more importantly the sacrifices of Soldiers at the day's end which is symbolic of cessation of war. It is not a display of callisthenics or acrobatics. What goes on at Wagah is MOST CERTAINLY NOT in the spirit of the "RETREAT". If any of you have seen the "RETREAT" as carried out by the Armed Forces will see the utterly stark contrast with the tamasha performed by the para-militaries. Having seen "RETREAT" ceremonies since boyhood, I will go many lengths to see a real one not the Circus Spectacle at Wagah. I can eat my "chana-mongphali and icecream" without such accompaniments!

And it gives me not a "little satisfaction" that this stupid act is NOT done by real soldiers. To confirm that see the "BEATING RETREAT" at Vijay Chowk or the Gateway of India. While it is a longer and elaborate version, it conveys the real dignified solemnity that MUST accompany the "striking of colours" at sunset.

I really wonder if the BSF & RANGER wallahs even understand the significance of the ceremony.
