This was the main reason why India tested ASAT and HSTDV. India will hold an important position in case anti proliferation body is formed.

HSTDV is a scramjet powered vehicle not a glide vehicle.

Then why was it launched using an agni missile

because to get if off the ground u need a booster first....scramjet kicks in after the missile has achieved a certain velocity and a reached specified altitude, much like how Brahmos' ramjet engine kicks in only after the 1st stage engine has burnt out.
This was done to test Scramjet engine...Now that this is successful, DRDO can move ahead with integrating 1st stage engine so it doesnt need other vehicle to launch.

Yeah, was thinking the same. For Pakistan, anything above Brahmos is overkill, infact maybe Brahmos too but its necessary to take out high priority targets.
Hypersonic is all for our eastern neighbour.

Just like how PAF uses standoff munitions against IAF while reserving its fighter just for defense uses the same can be said for India vs China that and the high altitude warzone makes standoff munitions more preferable..

Glide vehicle uses Rocket engine. This will use scremjet engine without oxidizer.

Now India has two premier agencies who have tested this technology successfully. DRDO and ISRO.
