This is set to put the country in top league as far as space exploration is concerned. India Sun mission being planned before 2020 @ $20 million cost
India seems to have big space plans at the moment. The nation that sent Moon mission a few years ago and sent a Mars Mission late last year is now planning to send Sun mission as early as 2020. This seems to be the biggest and most important Indian exploit in the space.
India has been making extremely fast strides. A nation that began taking baby step in the field of space exploration merely a few decades ago has been able to give good competition to other nations that have led in the field of scientific explorations like United States of America, European Union and China.
One very important aspect of the Indian space exploration is the fact that despite a few missteps and a few failures it hasn’t derailed and instead kept its super fast journey to successes and more and more explorations.
Reports are coming out that the Indian space agency ISRO is gearing up to its biggest test yet. India will send a multi-million dollar mission to probe the Sun by 2020,as reported by a space official. This maiden mission to the sun is titled Aditya-1.
ISRO and Indian government seems to be over excited with the nlatest development. K. Radhakrishnan, the ISRO director says, “The Aditya mission to the Sun has been planned between 2017 and 2020. The mission would be around the Earth. A few equipment are being planned for that”. And reports suggest that preparations are in full gear at the moment.
There is no doubt that it the project was in planning for years and it hasn’t come all of a sudden out of nowhere. The Sun mission is going to be extremely tricky due to very different circumstances and different realities. It was almost seven years ago when the Sun mission was talked of first. This part of the Sun has temperatures of over 1 million degrees, with raging solar winds that reach a velocity of up to 1,000 km a second. Now it will be equipped with an ultraviolet imager telescope to observe the whole solar disc so that the scientists can know things happening on the sun’s surface like solar storms, which impact atmosphere on the earth.
Reports suggest that the solar mission being planned by India’s space agency will be experimental in nature and very light indeed. The satellite, which will carry as its payload an advanced solar coronagraph also, will weigh just 400 kg. It was initially projected to cost $10 million, but due to an upgraded mission profile, it is now estimated to cost $20 million. Compared to expense that is incurred by other space agencies across the world it seems peanuts.
