India successfully tests world's 3rd largest and Asia's largest solid rocket booster

Congrat India!

With such a big booster, why the payload is only 4,000kg?

S200 is the third largest solid booster in the world after the RSRM solid booster of Space Shuttle and P230 solid booster of European rocket ARIANE-5.

The other to have a little higher payload into geo orbit somewhere around 5 to 7 thousand so as its our first its a real beuty :smitten:

a lot of te tech used in the rocket has been newly developed by ISRO.

Being first generation they have not been optimized to their best efficiency

Agreed. But there are still some problems with the engine. Thats why ISRO postponed the launch of GSLV indefinitely

I would like to see a source on that.

as far as i know

In 2007, the wind tunnel tests were completed and vehicle aero-elastic test activities commenced. The vehicle configuration update was completed. All major facilities including propellant plant, vehicle assembly and integration building, mobile launch pedestal and facilities at work centers have reached the final phase of completion. The L110 engine has been qualified with successful completion of 240 seconds hot tests.

First batch of light alloy structure and motor case segments were realized at work centers. The avionics system designs have been completed and first batch of packages are being realized for qualification. Avionics assemblies layout has been finalized and integration trials for package assembly are being carried out.The Solid booster S-200 was successfully tested in January 2010.

The first developmental flight is expected in 2011.

There have been no problems with entire system

Who could have believed that just after 60 years of Independence a country can achieve so much.

Proud to be an Indian.

good job Indians.but it will definitely take time to realise a launcher like Ariane 5.If the same pace continues, you might get it done.
All the best.and congrats fro the success:tup:.

This is certainly a major milestone for India, since alongwith boosting India's self efficiency in Space technology, it will also bring in cooperation in major way from space stalwarts like NASA, Arien on a major scale then. It will surely force developed world to look India as a major destination for space hub related technology, at the same time someone like US will change its stance from technology denial to technology provider for India.
