My point is simple more and more your economy mixes with the Americans.more and more the behind closed doors pressure will build.
If that wasn't the case 126 fighter jets would have been decided by now.

Why? We have bought from Britian and France before too. The MRCA deal is getting delayed mainly because of the change in 'criteria pts' like calculating 'life time cost'.

I think this issue is mostly due to shitty Russian quality of work....IN are not the only ones complaining....IIRC either Morocco or Algeria has turned down 28 Mig-29 SMTs from Russia because contrary to the contract calling for new airframes to be provided to the country, the Russians started using re-furbished aircraft....if Pakistan buys Russian, they better be careful...at least from the US/West when you get the stuff, its the same as what you contracted for...with Russians, it seems like you have to be on their case to get it right.

The IL may be a monster to maintain, but it sure is a fantastic aircraft.

Given the type of money that is being given by India, the Russians have to meet the customer's requirements.

The US has nothing to do with the deal or does it? If so, how?

New engines for Russian and Indian Bears

Russia's Nikolai Kuznetsov's Samara Scientific Technical Complex (Kuznetsov SNTK) is resuming production of its NK-12 turboprop engine under orders from the Russian and Indian defence ministries as part of a re-engining programme for their respective fleets of Tupolev Tu-95 bombers and Tu-142 maritime surveillance aircraft.

An initial six engines are due to be delivered late this year, with India having placed orders in late 2006. Moscow's upgrade programme comes in the wake of president Vladimir Putin's 17 August order to resume round-the-clock long-range air patrols. Royal Norwegian Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16 and UK Royal Air Force Panavia Tornado F3 fighters on 6 September intercepted a formation of eight Tu-95s over the North Sea.

I hope that they decide on the MMA/MPA soon. AFAIK, it should be decided by the end of 2008 isnt it? The IN is already testing the the entered platforms. IN team was in US some time back to check out the P-8 proto.
