What's new

India slips seven positions to 101 in Global Hunger Index 2021, lags behind Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal

We are a poor developing country unable to feed our population its time rohingyas, bangladeshis gets thrown in their land of milk & honey.

How can we deprive them a good healthy future ?

All free market economies work the same way.
Everyone has the freedom not to starve to death, and have the freedom to fill their stomachs. That is the first freedom and the first human right of mankind.

Even if India cannot produce enough food, at least the Indian government should ban food exports.
65 million tons of grain, even if calculated at $1000 per ton, is only $65 billion. It is not too much burden for the Indian government.

Also cultivated land in India is 9 times of Pakistan and 17 times that of Bangladesh. So this population comparison is useless. With more population India also has more area to cultivate and feed its people.

Even China has less arable land than India but with same population Chinese food consumption per capita is 3 times that of India.

Less pepot then should be less Hungary people in the country.

But here, even the name of the six times less populated country names come around at 90+ and they are laughing on 6 times more populated country which rank is 103,... It is itself laughable...

The situation looks more worst in less populated country, here..

To put it in perspective, the entire Indian defense budget is less than $50 Billion. Developed countries and major economic powers can afford to do that. India is no position to do that. So we have to make some sacrifices. Government of India does procure and provide free food for the poor but it will be never be enough.

Problem with Indians is that you go to any social media platform, they behave like they are well fed, rich, educated, technological advanced country. Indians then are showed mirror from time to time when such surveys are published.

You have more population, but more land. Such surveys take care of that info of course. Pakistanis don't usually brag about being super power or regional power or rich etc and don't look down on others.

The number, despite your huge GDP relatively better per capita income shows that you score poorly on GINI index. It means your GDP per capita is inflated due to few wealthy individuals whose wealth is increasing at an enormous rate while many are going to bed without eating anything.

With the numbers you have, you guys should behave with humility whenever online, otherwise you will continue to get humiliated every now and then.
The situation looks more worst in less populated country, here..
And of course, you have no idea what is being discussed.

True but the end result is that we are still a food surplus country with all those inefficiencies.

Well, "inefficiencies" is an understatement when people die of hunger at railway stations or have to resort to eat road-kill dogs on the highway or have to scoop up milk spilled from a milker tanker with dogs lapping up the milk upstream.

India is 6 times more poputaed then both countries as well..

India's problem is its unscientific agriculture. The answer in a single sentence, and India can serve as a proving ground to the world, massive adoption of Vertical Farms and general Urban Farming which would make cities self-sufficient in food production.

India is a free market economy.

Unfortunately.

Unfortunately.

Vertical agriculture and urban agriculture need to consume a lot of water and electricity. I don't think it's suitable for India.

India should ban food exports, and introduce advanced agricultural technology from abroad to increase grain output.
Don't rush to pursue vertical agriculture. Even the Japanese have screwed up that technology, and the Chinese are still exploring. Considering the cost, China's vertical agriculture can only be used to produce organic vegetables.

The American idea of Vertical Farms being singular 30-storey buildings is a non-sensible idea. The farms can be four storeys and wide and distributed all over the city. Even better if newly developed neighborhoods have inherent Vertical Farms.

As for electricity I am sure solar panels will do the job. As for water, well, this will have to be a necessary implementation if the idea is for the city to become food-self-sufficient.

In this post I speak more on this topic and include a picture of a Venezuelan Urban Farm ( the government is implementing it to go with the direct democracy system also being implemented ).

Well, let's assume that India can solve the power problem. What about water resources? Vertical agriculture consumes more water resources than traditional agriculture. Is India rich in water resources?

This study coincides with some other recent global studies showing Indian populaiton are getting shorter and more undernurished.

Vertical agriculture consumes more water resources than traditional agriculture.

How ?

Is India rich in water resources?

Well, there are many rivers across the country. There is even a plan to link up some of these rivers for inland water transport. What India can do is build a huge network of cross-country water pipelines from those rivers like Libya had built the Great Man Made River project that channeled water from desert aquifers. This would be more worthwhile than spending resources on building India to be the world's biggest military.
Even the Japanese have screwed up that technology

I think they are not realizing the potential.

and the Chinese are still exploring. Considering the cost, China's vertical agriculture can only be used to produce organic vegetables.

I am sure staple foods like wheat and rice can be produced too.

Placed below Pakistan and still laughing on Pakistan. Unbelievable...!
No wonder you lot are called Sanghis.

Pakistan and India - Neighbors in geography

And Neighbors in Hunger index

Neighbors in corruption

And Neighbors in bakhts defending their favorite leaders. On this side of borders, bakhts defending Imran Khan, on the other side bakhts defending modi

This whole region is one big pile of misery ruled by the worst people with worst blind followers of those people
