Indian economy was growing and is still growing though at a lesser pace.

Norway's and Sweden's and many other countries have good economies. They are not regional powers by any stretch of imagination. Though it helps, economy is not the criteria to become a powerful nation. All elements of national power are taken into account.

India will rule the Indian ocean from Malacca straits to east Africa it is essential for world peace, There are no strong countries in that region and China cannot do a US in SCS.
Any strategic chess move to pit any of the island nations against India will back fire and choke China in Malacca straits. There is nothing that can rival IN in this region for decades to come. The pipelines and other networks that China is building to by pass Malacca straits won't work in war time as they are very vulnerable. If they try to by pass Malacca straits and want to go by Arctic region it will be costly for them.
