India’s Unending Defence Expenditure

Dear ek_indian

I am in hurrry, so i give a quick reply, yea?

Ho ha is irrelevant.
Just a couple of observations.

First of all, how does it matter how much India spends on its defence? India is a sovreign country and the GoI will decide how much to spend where.. Sajjad Shaukat or any other circles of criticism that he refers to in his post can rant all they want but really does not make any difference..

Please open your eyes well and then read the following first line out of the quote in your reply.

Over the next 12 years, India is set to spend a whopping US$200 billion on defence acquisitions to replace its outdated inventory

It is saying that this 200 b d fortune will be spended on replacing the old machinery alone. The rest of teh usual defence budget is not covered in this 200 B.D. THIS IS THE POINT.
It nowhere gives any clear backup (even if the article is considered credible) that this spend is over and above the defence budget. A little bit of research will show that out of the defence budget of 2009 ($28 billion), $10 billion was for capital aquisitions, meaning for new purchases.

Now assuming indian economy grows at 7% for next 12 years and the defence expenditure stays at 2.5% of GDP and the ratio of recurring expenses and capital aquisitions stays the same as 2009, India will end up spending $200 billion over next 12 years. So this article says that if India does not make increase of decrease its defence budget as a % of GDP over next 12 years, it will spend $200 billion in aquisitions.

So do you see where this is going. This article is a good example of how you can extrapolate a present number over a few years and use a summation to paint a much more sensational picture of what is nothing but business as usual..

Any way you can go to a thread by Riaz around 34% increase in India's defence budget and go over all this cr*p to your heart's content..

military budget of india, according to the article = usual spending (as mentioned in budget etc) + 200 billions mention above (+ further increase and special allocations as and when needed).
Incorrect as shown above

do not need indian fabricated sources, thankyou.

And the article you posted.. Is it Pakistani fabricated ??

Pakistan budget figure was used as CONTRAST. Yar, is me koi burai nai ha, while comparing with others gives good idea.

Actually no comparison. India's economy is over 7 times larger than Pakistan's. Selecting invalid benchmarks is worse than using no benchmarks...

.
I learn that India spends 3% of GDP. Is it too much?

Is this 200 B$ will be spent at once(in 1 year)?

So finally here huh!

Well 200 Billion will be spent over the period of 10 years. So it is like 20 Billion per year.

Well can someone tell me if this budget is seperate from our nomal defence budget? Coz in that case that would make it 50billion USD per year. isn't it?

PS- Samika send me a friend request.

and why should not we alter the strategic balance of the region,we have money,we have will, and the most important no one can stop as from doing so

and we dont care what is ur minimum detterence,if u.s gives some additional $$$ in aid increase that, because u cant do that urself

and above all,i can see the frustuation of some poor pakistani people, what else can u do

But dear sir, what is pakistan's problem in it, If we spend so Much? I do not understand why you people are so frustrated...

It's not about frustration alone man.. it's also about pissing in pants when one reads about the amount of money being spent ;). It's about national security and we are the ones who decide how much to spend and what to spend it on.. so the cribbers here and everywhere on the face of this earth can go @#$% themselves :coffee:

Does anyone has details on domestic security spending? After countless terror attacks, I am hoping GoI is gives equal priority to homeland security.
