LHC orders release of Hafiz Saeed
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the release of Jammat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed, Geo News reported on Tuesday.
A full bench of the Lahore High Court heard a habeas corpus petition against the detention of Jamatud Dawa leaders Hafiz Saeed and Col (retd) Nazir Ahmad.
The bench, comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Justice Hasnat Ahmad Khan and Justice Zubdatul Hussain, heard arguments of the petitioners’ counsel after those of the attorney general.
Talking to the media, the petitioners’ counsel AK Dogar said the house arrest of Hafiz Saeed is illegal and unconstitutional, adding he termed it as the violation of human rights; however, the state’s counsel said the government can keep any person with assigning any reason.
Dogar said that court decision indicates that the courts in the country are free, adding the court has ordered the release of Hafiz Saeed and all his friends put under house arrest with him.
The court also ordered the release of Col (retd) Nazir Ahmad.
It should be mentioned that Hafiz Saeed was put under house arrest on December 11, last year, and thus, his release was made after five months and 20 days.
