India’s Quiet Counter-China Strategy

Why would we want China to go to war with India? We don't want to see the Chinese people or infrastructure suffer.
You may not believe it, but we don't want to see Indian people die either.

Well, leaving aside individuals here, one can see that Pakistan gets more leverage if Indo-China relations head South.

Many Pakistanis I have seen on forums somehow try and convince the Chinese that India is their enemy.

Frankly, I think it is shortsighted. The real benefits to our people will come if all three countries are friendly to each other.

.
I would have responded if it was a bit more civil than that.

You will get paid back in the same coin you deal out.

I know. You are highly selective in where you apply your "Islamic" causes. It is driven by political opportunism.

No, it has to do with international disputes as opposed to internal matters.

The concept might be hard for some people to understand who see a big Islamic conspiracy everywhere.

With Pakistan, you chose to equate Pakistan with Islam and define your national identity in terms of a religion.

So, if a political decision is deemed "Islamic" then we are ruled by Islam.
If it goes against the "Islamic" view then we are being politically opportunistic.
You've set up a convenient canard to explain either case, which makes your whole premise tautological and worthless.

For Indians and for most others, religion is not to be mixed with politics.

Not to a growing number of Indians.

There is a world of difference between India-China rivalry and actual war. As for the former, we don't need to do anything. Indian think-tankers themselves acknowledge that India and China are long term rivals since they are battling for influence in the same space.

.
That would be news.

The West does not control India nor is India dependant on the West.

India has carved its niche on its own and the West requires it, more than India requires the West.

If I may remind you all the Big Five countries including China, came calling one after another last year.

may i also remind you people do anything to get business deals, you also over estimate the calling of thoses countries last year. it makes india look good to the world because they were schedules intentionally one after another. look what happen now all thoses countries went back home and no body give a toss about india any more.

OK. Show me one post where I disrespected Pakistan this way.

Now, I have seen Pakistan apply Islam in international relations on opportunistic basis as well. Let's leave it there.

Nope. You chose to define your country in religious terms and selectively use Islam for domestic and foreign policy. It is too plain, no point in even debating it.

Not to a growing number of Indians

That's what you think. If at all, religion becomes a factor only in discussions with Pakistanis.

As they chose to define their identity and country in religious terms when it suits them.

There is a world of difference between India-China rivalry and actual war. As for the former, we don't need to do anything. Indian think-tankers themselves acknowledge that India and China are long term rivals since they are battling for influence in the same space.

This rivalry is overplayed for the most part. There is much to be gained by co-operation and both countries realize that and co-operate on many issues.

There are sticking points but more noise is made about them than is due.

OK. Show me one post where I disrespected Pakistan this way.

There have been many, but one just off the top of my head was the one about China fighting India to the last Pakistani.

Nope. You chose to define your country in religious terms and selectively use Islam for domestic and foreign policy. It is too plain, no point in even debating it.

What you call 'selectively' we call 'appropriately'. It's a matter of perspective.

That's what you think.

Nope. I don't want to go off-track but there has been much analysis in Indian/Western media about the rise of certain religious/nationalist organizations.

It has nothing to do with disrespecting Pakistan! It is just about explaining Chinese policy (in the words of a Chinese military person).

"many" seems to be a perception, devoid of facts.

What you call 'selectively' we call 'appropriately'. It's a matter of perspective.

Still, you do it. That is all I meant.

Nope. I don't want to go off-track but there has been much analysis in Indian/Western media about the rise of BJP and RSS.

So? They are right wing parties or cultural organizations. They are not terrorists?

It is just like Christian democratic parties in Europe. Why fuss over them?

They have no agenda outside our constitution and outside our country.

I think this covers it, did I miss something? This is the sh*t that passes for China scholarship today, because western China scholars are just paid for racist propaganda.

You missed my favorite American analysis of China. Japan failed to overtake America in the 80's. Japanese people are yellow skinned. Chinese people are also yellow skinned. The end conclusion must be obvious. This covers 80% of what passes for Chinese scholarship in the US, equating it with Japan.

A little hard to believe this.

China must be one of the most studied country in the USA now. There are millions of Chinese living in the USA.

Those who matter must surely know better than that!

.
chinese always tell us how benevolent they are and the want a "peaceful rise" but the vast majority of its neighbors would gladly side with America.

the chinese of course would get defensive and tell us that we are all US's poodles. yes the people of east asia rather be a poodle to uncle sam than be a friend with china.

the chinese are your typical bully though, they can only pick on monks and smaller nations. but when the big dogs rolls around they bow their heads and "me love du long dime, me wok hard for du, please no hurd the feelbing of the chinese people"

Frankly, I don’t think this guy is a Japanese. He writes like an Indian and behaviors like an Indian…an arrogant Indian, not the wise ones.

Let’s for the moment take his face value and deem him a Japanese.

Japanese militarists and the likes are the most ferocious and slavery type of people, opportunistically jumping from one extreme to the other depending on the situation.

When they were ferocious, they killed Chinese and other countries’ people heartlessly, recklessly and relentlessly.

When they were ferocious, they sneak-bombed Perl Harbor in no time, and at the same time, chatting friendship between USA and Japan, by sending Sakura (櫻; さくら, Japanese Cherry flower) trees to Washington DC. Just by looking at that, you know how evil those Japanese militarists were, albeit similar to Indian Nehru jingoistic parliament members, but the Japanese were stronger, so they could deal more devastating destruction to the world.

On slavery side, they not only let US army occupy their home country for over 60 year, they exercised their servitude to such an extreme that when US soldiers raped their mothers/sisters/daughters, and they dared not yield one cry to have their own local jurisdiction do the justice over the crime but giving up the case to the occupier. When the people of Japan want US soldiers to be out of Japan, the leaders of Japan slavishly licked boots of US and suppressed their people’s opinion… This list of ferocity and servitude of the Japanese militarists can go on for ever.

Whether Japanese militarists were ferocious or the Chinese were benevolent is fortunately not for you to tell, because history has already marked it indelibly.

This is an example:

Sendai, devastated only days ago by earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters, is a place where lots of war criminals were produced and murdering machines were formed against the Chinese and the people of E. Asia and USA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Division_(Imperial_Japanese_Army)

The 2nd Infantry Division was formed in Sendai, Miyagi in January 1871 as the Sendai Garrison (仙台鎮台 Sendai chindai?), one of six regional commands created in the fledgling Imperial Japanese Army. The Sendai Garrison had responsibility for northern region of Honshū (Tohoku district), ranging from Fukushima Prefecture to Aomori Prefecture. The six regional commands were transformed into divisions under the army reorganization of 14 May 1888.

The headquarters of the 2nd Division was located in the Ni-no-maru of Sendai Castle, where the campus of Tohoku University is now located. Its original composition included the 4th Infantry Regiment (raised in Sendai), 5th Infantry Regiment (raised in Aomori), 16th Infantry Regiment (raised in Shibata) and the 17th Infantry Regiment (raised in Akita). In the reorganization prior to World War II, the 29th Infantry Regiment (raised in Wakamatsu) was added.

As one of the oldest Divisions in the Imperial Japanese Army, the 2nd Division saw combat in the First Sino-Japanese War (where 35,000 Chinese were killed or wounded) and the Russo-Japanese War, where it gained a reputation for excellence in night operations.

Some of its more noteworthy commanders included Sakuma Samata, Nogi Maresuke, Nishi Kanjiro, Nitahara Shigeyuki, HIH Prince Higashikuni Naruhiko, and Umezu Yoshijiro (a WWII war criminal, who also signed the Instrument of Surrender to Allied nations).

From 1930 to 1933, the 2nd Division was under the command of Lieutenant-General Jiro Tamon. In 1931, transferred to the Kwangtung Army in Manchuria, it took the lead in the initial operations of the invasion of Manchuria, then in the Jiangqiao Campaign, Chinchow Operation, and in overcoming the defense of Harbin, following the Mukden Incident.

Later in 1939, the 2nd Division was under 3rd Army which was facing the southern half of the border of the Maritime province of the Soviet Union from Korea northward. The Katayama Detachment from 2nd Division, (consisting of the 15th Infantry Brigade, with 16th and 30th Infantry Regiments, and a field artillery battalion) fought small actions near Akiyama heights, or Heights 997 on 6th -10 September 1939. 2nd Division (and the 4th Division) was attached to Japanese Sixth Army in the Nomonhan/Khalkhin Gol Campaign as reinforcement for a projected counterattack that was canceled when a cease fire was signed.
With the start of hostilities in the Second Sino-Japanese War, 15th Mixed Brigade from the 2nd Division saw combat in the invasion of Chahar and in the Battle of Xuzhou where 3rd Infantry Brigade was temporarily assigned to the North China Area Army.

After the start of the Pacific War the 2nd Division was reassigned to the southern front under Field Marshall Terauchi Hisaichi's Southern Command, and was one of the divisions which occupied the Dutch East Indies. It lost over 7,000 men in the disastrous Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Afterwards, it was assigned to garrison duties in occupied Malaya and Singapore.

In 1944, it was ordered to Burma to resist the British reoccupation. After performing coastal duties in Arakan the division was reassigned directly to Burma Area Army in May. Used as a strategic reserve it was largely annihilated in the subsequent conflict. Its remnants were assigned to the Japanese 38th Army in French Indochina, and disbanded at the end of World War II.

This was how the Chinese in NE were butchered by the Japanese. I am sure some gleeful internet Indians love to see the picture as they are longing to do atrocities like that against the Chinese. I am also sure some Japanese also love to see the picture repeated, as they never officially apologized to the Chinese for their atrocities.

I would be happier if they could first build up everything and THEN talk about it... this "will be", "might be", "will do".. sort of lines that such articles write is so irritating and highlights nothing more than the snail pace of GOI.

:coffee: I also think that "kamakazi attack" is not a Japanese. He should be an Indian in Hong Kong.
Because his remarks not as a Japanese right-wing.

When the Japanese attacked the Chinese people, they say not the same as "kamakazi attack".

A 15 member rescue team from China arrived to conduct rescue work in Sendai. No hatred, but humanity and sympathy towards the ordinary Japanese people in their heart, the heart of the Chinese: what a stark contrast to the japanese ferocity.

There is no way to know on internet what his real identity is (or for that matter yours).

I find this looking for "Indian" under every corner a bit pathetic. But then its just me.

Is this guy for real!

What a pathetic mindset. I feel sorry for whatever happened when you fell on your head, when you were still so young.
