The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) have maintained a steady silence so as not to disturb the Thimpu Spirit as India readies itself by putting in place its missile defence shield.

None of the political parties which are seen advocating peace with New Delhi appears least bothered in the future of the continuing strategic instability that India is continuously creating with its expansionist defence policies.

Dr. Shireen Mazari, chief executive officer of Strategic Technology Resource (STR) and central vice president of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf, tells ‘The News’ that the readying ofthe Indian missile defence shield has been a part of India’sABM-BMD (Ballistic Missile Defence) programme and will certainly undermine the prevailing strategic stability in the region not only vis a vis Pakistan but also in relation to China.

“One needs to recall that India was the first country to welcome the US missile defenceprogramme and since Bill Clinton’s visit to India and the ensuing Vision Document that laid the foundations of the newIndo-US strategic partnership, there has been extensive military cooperation between the two countries. This cooperation has included transfer of military technology and missile development”, she explains.

For Pakistan, says Mazari, this new development implies a push towards more numbers in terms of its medium and intermediate range missiles until such time as we can develop our own limited anti-ballistic missile system (ABM). But that would lead to a new arms race in the region.

“If India deploys its missile defence shield then it implies that India seeks to move out of the deterrence mode into a warfighting mode in terms of the use of nuclear weapons - that one can actually use nuclear weapons in war and prevail militarily. This is highly dangerous especially in the Pak-India context”, she adds.

It would be far wiser and economically more sensible for both Pakistan and India to move towards signing a strategic agreement limiting ABM deployments or, even better, renouncing missile defence altogether — the MAD doctrine that accepts non-use of nuclear weapons for war fighting.

They just can't believe that we can do it on our own. Just because you couldn't solve a few math problems can't me we didn't. And our guys are solving similar math problems all over the missile chapter :-)

The MAD doctrine already is in place. Just because a small BDM system is in place does not mean that our planners will become aggressive and stupid. However it is prudent for any country to ensure that it uses its resources properly to ensure that it not only survives, but thrives.

Keep those developments coming folks!!!

Pakistan's near fatal quest to gain parity with India never ceases to amaze me, and the kind of illogical explanations given to something like a missile defense shield which is wholly a defensive posturing into something offensive is mind boggling. Equating India's quest to protect some of its vital areas against rogue forces in its neighborhood to MAD is amusing.

The problem with Pakistan is that it thinks that it is the ONLY force India has to tackle. And it believes that India can easily tackle Pakistan and hence, India does not need these defences (Internet Fanboys have different opinions, though and believe that they can come to India and even liberate Sikkim from umm... Sikkimese people :P).

Now that they think India does not need these defences, they believe that if we get them, we are getting into an offensive mode.

thats really is an idotic excuse to potrait India as a aggressor, the writter her self dosent aknowledge the chines BDM, but assumes that for the sake of pakistan-India good relation India will for-go its one of most advance defence machenism,
what a fail.
She must first need to examine the threat perceptive against India by some war-mongral contries against it.
Its in India's self interest to develop and deploy and defence weapon which protect it.

Who's stopping them from developing the same ....go do the needful...don't tell us what we shld do and not do :sniper:

.
its Missile DEFENCE Shield...don't understand whats the problem in saving you own counrtymen in war

. .
They think our policy planners are as big an idiot as their's. Just because we have one or two BMD systems don't mean that we'll resort to the use of nukes to 'prevail militarily' which we can just as well do without nukes.
