MOSCOW: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday lauded the "impressive tempo" of India's development after independence, saying it rightfully enjoys high authority in the world.

"Keeping intact its national identity and unique, many centuries long traditions, your nation is demonstrating impressive tempo of social-economic growth, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian growth," Medvedev wrote in his greeting message to President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the 65th Independence Day.

He noted that India "rightfully" enjoys high authority in the world and actively contributes in maintaining security and stability in Asia and the world as a whole.

"We highly value the privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India, based on long friendship of our people, substantive political dialogue distinguished by its constructive character and mutual trust, common stands on key issues of international agenda," Medvedev wrote to the Indian leaders.

Medvedev expressed hope that the Moscow summit later this year will become a major milestone in further development of bilateral relations, which have a significant potential of growth in many areas including trade, military-technical cooperation, science and culture, a Kremlin release stated.

Very welcoming words from president Medvedev. I hope that there is significant development made in commercial and civil trade which is very low compared to its military counterpart. A bilateral trade of $ 9 billion is abysmal judging by the fact that our trade with smaller and less developed nations ranks much much higher in bilateral trade value. We need to look seriously into the non-military aspect of Indo-Russian cooperation as well.

Energy, pharmaceuticals, constructions, industrial goods, heavy machinery, automobile development, arts and media, consumable goods.... the possibilities are endless.

How much did all the military contracts between India and Russia worth?? must be billions and billions of dollars? Oh, I see what you are doing Medvedev... you son of slick lawyer :azn:

When some country praise China...then you guys deserve it...if its India..theres a hidden motive??....Yeah....right..very smooth!!

I was just joking. tongue in cheek? Don't take it seriously, please. :smitten: But on the other hand, you have to admit there is no permanent friendship between countries, there are only national interests or probably just business interests.

Would you believe me if i said they were less than those between Russia and China? :D
I believe that business trade between Russia and China worth way more than Russia and India, especially in natural gas and oil. If you are only talking about military trade, it's probably not as much as 10 years ago.

What's odd about the Russian-Hind relationship is that from what I understand many Russians hate Hindustanis, if you think Australia is bad you should see Russia they will attack Hindustani students without hesitation. So the Russian people, the commoner and the right-wing hate/dislike Hindustanis but Czar Medvedev is interested in expanding business ties with Hindustan. That is good for Hindustan. Though it's interesting how they work around the hatred and racism common Russians have for who they see as "dark" Hindustanis...

With attacks on Indian students in Australia, that caused strains in Hinds ties with Australia but attacks against Indian students in Russia seem to be completely ignored. I just find this Indian Russian relationship interesting.

As for PM Medvedev's comment about India, that was nice of him to say that.
