India Rejects Advice of its Closest Ally... ally, it could be... closet ally :smokin:  put your facts into order...

One is Sunni and other Shia. These groups have been fighting ever since Muslim was established.
A Sunni killed a Shia and that's why they are fighting and this happened 1500 years ago. After that is resolved they have another 1500 years of history to settle.
So there is gong to be no love in the near future.

I am happy at the latest turn of events. I am happy at India standing up for its interests. We are not beholden to anyone. Whatever we get from others, we buy with hard cash. No one is doing India any favors. Iran has been an old friend of India and meets a very substantial part of our energy needs.

The Indo US Nuclear deal was about US companies gaining access to huge Indian nuclear power market and India achieving access to civilian nuclear technologies and nuclear fuel to meet its ever increasing energy needs. It works both ways and has not really lived up to the aims set out for it.

India must have an independent foreign policy which has Indian national interests at its core. Historically, Russia has been India's long term friend. America is not India's closest ally, it is not even an ally in the formal sense of the word. Yes, there is convergence of US and Indian strategic interests in several areas. In these areas we shall cooperate with the US but only on an equal basis. We will not compromise our national interests in areas where our interests differ or diverge. There is no such thing as unconditional support to any country in foreign policy, be it Russia or the US or any other country.
